I don’t see Ian Machida Garry having much trouble with Carlos Pirates…

If Garry can’t get him down - it could be a problem for sure

Prates has that one shot touch of death power

Garry was dropped by kenannsong … so prates is def a threat

5 rounds too

Has to avoid that touch of death for 5 …. I think I’ll pick prates at dog odds
But Parotas has never been 5 rounds and with Garry’s grappling heavy style, you really think Pilates is going to have that “touch of death” pop after 1-2 rounds?

prates has weird power, he rocked magny with a jab then ko'd him with a punch that barely landed, he also made jingliang do the chicken dance with a lead hand strike, Garry got nailed by MVP and shavkat whenever they threw a straight shot. I think he will win with grappling and clinching against the fence but wouldn't be surprised if he gets ko'd randomly

Garry does have surprisingly bad striking defense. And I'm surprised to see so many people thinking Garry will easily win with grappling....he's really not a particularly good offensive grappler. Unless you're MVP level bad at grappling, he probably can't do that much to you offensively. Is Prates that bad? Honestly I don't recall seeing his grappling tested much. It could be a Jean Silva situation where it turns out to be a lot better than we think.

Why do folks think Prates cant grapple or defend tds from a guy who's not a legit high level td threat?

I'm more curious as to why people assume that Prates will outstrike Garry tbh.

Prates is a big dude with good reach I’m interested to see how these guys compare at the weigh ins.

Prates is gonna win this. And if we get a majority stand up fight, I would be even confident he will finish Garry.

Looking forward to a mod correcting the “Machida”/“Pirates” spelling solely to kill your terrible gimmick.

One of the more smooth brain gimmicks on here.

It's a risky fight, but Garry is gunning for the title and has said himself, he has to be prepared to beat anyone en route to the destination. He follows through so kudos to him.

Grapple heavy style? Seriously have we seen him use grappling much against anyone other than MVP, one of the worst grapplers in high level MMA history.

If he makes it an MMA match he wins but if he tries to make it a purely striking match he will get KO'd.

I would see Garry as the more proven fighter. I don't know though, Prates has some vicious strikes that he has been starching people with.

Looking forward to finding out what will happen.

Ian is stepping up on 3 weeks notice when Geoff Neal pulled out.

It might give Prates a slight advantage that Ian is coming in basically without a camp.
I doubt ian wasn't training even without a camp

Sure, but a camp in most cases is geared towards a specific type of training for the opponent and not just general training. But now that I think about it a little more, Prates hasn't been training for the type of style Garry is bringing either.

Garry is better than I initially thought, & Prates hasn’t faced anyone near Garry’s level. Prates looks great but that could be because he hasn’t faced anyone high level as Garry. I think Garry wins a close decision
