Yeah, people are being dramatic all over the place. It was just a close fight and both had their moments. Nothing to cry about either way, IMO. I also thought Ciryl won. They changed the rules a good while back so that lay and pray wouldn't be rewarded as much anymore, but I honestly think a lot of judges don't even know the official scoring criteria.

Gane wins the 5th if you go by the official scoring criteria. He had the more significant strikes and he had a sub attempt. Those are scored more than anything Ngannou did. The dominant position isn't weighed as heavily.

Completely disagree with your assessment.
The slam was beautiful, but it was mostly just a combination of a badly time high-risk strike, and Nganou just being strong as f'ck.
More bad luck than any real huge talented discrepancy. Mistakes like that happen all the time, it's just not usually as dramatic because usually, guys aren't that big.
If Moreno made the exact same mistake against Figuroea, they would have just bounced off the ground into a scramble and it would have barely been a scoring move for the judges.

Gane did fine after the slam too, he didn't really take any damage, and got back to the same striking rhythm he had before the slam.

The difference-makers in the fight was Ngannou learning a new effective conservative grappling style, that Gane just didn't game plan for, and that really came later in the fight.
