I can't believe I have class on MLK day

The university I work for is closed today.

Show some respect! MLK died because he wanted you to have class on this day and on every day.

Also, gunfire.

Could you imagine if R-Money won the election and was the one having his inauguration today on MLK day? Ultimate trolljob lol

Honestly, I don't think it's a big deal that you have to work or go to school on MLK Day. There are so many holidays that you cannot get all of them off. Our society has decided that holidays such as Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving we must get off. I understand that other holidays arguably deserve the same fair treatment, but it's just not feasible to be fair to all of them. I'm not Christian either, so I completely realize how unfair it is that the Christian holidays are what we have off. It's not fair, but we've done it for so long. It's not changing anytime soon.

I'd rather have MLK Day off than Thanksgiving based on the history of the two.

That would be hilarious.

"I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day the 47% of Americans will stop leeching off their working brothers and sisters.

I have a dream that one day little black boys and little black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and little white girls and demand lower taxes and less social programs.

Let freedom ring!"

For some reason this reminds me of 9/11. After seeing the news on the television that morning I showed up for the exam I was having in my first class. A bunch of twits who had no idea the attacks had happened showed up for class completely oblivious to the events. Upon hearing about them they then went into this protracted emotional melodrama about how it wasn't right that they should have to take a test under the circumstances.

I remember that day, because I was still in middle school at the time it happened. The teachers were actually informed not to tell the students, so I came home not having a clue about the events. Really, on the day something of that magnitude happens people should be informed and dismissed from class and work. That is a very special circumstance.

For some of you that complain about not having MLK Day off, you probably do get Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and a few other holidays off. It's really just which of the holidays. You have to attend work or school on some holiday.

I personally would rather just have the day after holidays like St. Patrick's Day or Cinco de Mayo where I'd get drunk off, because I'd prefer not to go into work hungover.

My boss isn't even from America. Hes from Britain. He gives zero fucks about MLK. Hence forth the reason why im at work now.

What you're describing was like what happened with me when the Challenger Shuttle exploded - I didn't hear about it until I got home. My story about 9/11 was different. I was in graduate school and the class in question started less than 50 minutes after the attacks. No one even had time to consider the appropriate response. I think the school even canceled afternoon classes. On the other hand, the twits begging for their exam to be postponed were opportunists trying to avoid their responsibility. It was not coincidence that that set was the chronically-late-for-class type.

I'm at work. But I work for a great company that gives me holidays. I'll celebrate MLK day next Wednesday on my three day weekend.
