My reasoning are follows.
The order of events accomplished does not have an impact on the value of the whole events. For example, over the course of the fight, whether the near guilotine attempt happened in round 2 and near ko in round 3, or other way around, doesnt change the whole picture of the performance.
Daniel Cormier ia a heavyweight who came back up. Just because someones shorter and looks chunky it doesnt mean he is not a small guy. He competed in wrestling at 211 pounds, and he even had kidney failute trying to cut weight in olympic.S It wasnt a sure thing if he could cut to LHW when a word came out he would try. He weighed in heavier against Stipe who doesnt cut weight either.
Imagine for a second order of events has changed. That Daniel Cormier defeated Stipe for Hw crown then moved down and got betaed by Jon Jones twice then Jon Jones tested positive.
Is that impressive?
I am a big fan of underdogs but usually underdogs lose. Daniel Cormier wasnt one either. No one in their right mind would have thought DC would lose to Stipe if DC never went down either.
Personally, out of the history of two weight claass champion, in my humble opinion, who actually overcame or tried to overcome weight disadvantage, was BJ Penn and only him. Thats the only one in my opinion who truly tried to beat the better, stronger champion and succeeded once.
