"I am embarrassed with my record" "Chael Sonnen

Chael wakes up at night in cold sweats after nightmares of Jeremy Horn

You actually made me want to look up his Bodog record and it's pretty darn impressive - knocked out Tim Credeur (who was a solid gatekeeper) and Suloev (who was probably way past his prime at that point), submitted McKenzie (I remembered fight :) ) snd decisioned Oleinik without getting subbed in the process, which is a feat in itself.

Suloev was not really past his prime, Chael was just a terrible stylistic math-up for him, and way bigger than Suloev. It was Sonnen's best win up until that point, according to me and to Sonnen himself:

Thank You! Appreciate the info.

That video really shows how BORING Chael once was, and he was extremely and openly self-conscious.

Then he caught on to what gets a fighter attention from the media and fans - showmanship - he developed the 'American Gangster' persona based on pro-wrestling promos, and it got him to be standing across from the cage against three of the Top5 GOATS of the sport, becoming a respected commentator, and has a successful YouTube channel.

Chael could write a 'Marketing For Fighters' book and it'd sell big.

I feel sorry for Shale. Hes grind and work ethics brought him to a contender spot but he fell short twice by an inch.

OK the JJ toe thing would have been a fluke. But still.

He could write it and you are a perfect example of why

You missed all the improvements in Sonnen's game after training under renowned BJJ coach Fabiano "Pega Leve" and of course the improvements in his conditioning under a heavy PED program, which both happened around 2008, some time after that video, and obviously took his fighting ability to another level.

You didnt notice - or you dont acknowlege - any of that. What you notice is his "American Gangster" persona. I mean you are the perfect example of why Marketing works for fighters lol

As a matter of fact, Sonnen got the credit as a legitimate tittle contender before his "American Gangster" persona was even a thing. He got it after dominating then #2 MW Yushin Okami in an unaired bout in the prelims which didnt got any attenton from the media but got him a tittle eliminator vs Marquardt, which again wasnt surrounded by any "Marketing" but Sonnen dominated and got him the tittle shot.

It was only once he was already scheduled to challenge the #1 p4p fighter in the world Anderson Silva for the tittle when he started the showmanship to sell the PPVs that Silva - as good as he was - was not that capable of selling by himself. Silva thanked him years later for it btw. The fact Sonnen gave him his toughest tittle defense is not Marketing neither.

Anderson lost 4/5 rounds in their first fight, and knee-d a down opponent in their second fight.

So technically, Chael is still undefeated.
Chael is so overrated. He picked up where the lesser Lutter left off and lacked the heart to even fight off a sub that appeared to be half ass sunk in. The dude was minutes away from beating a sweaty and slippery Anderson Silva. UFC wise, Sonnen was ok. A very beatable fighter and thats why I call him overrated as to the way some talk about him.

You're post just repeats everything already knows about Sonnen, and I could have repeated it as well but I prefer to keep my posts to-the-point rather than writing paragraph after paragraph of common knowledge, like...

"The best trash talker can't get a title shot without backing it up in the cage."

Yeah, no shit. And here's more shit everybody knows -

Sonnen wasn't so good to lose a 2nd time against Silva to be granted a title shot at a 205 against Jones. He was given that title fight because he was very marketable. Period.

Chaels a great example of a fighter that psychology always beats himself in big moments. Same as Cerrone. They where never going to be champs, there minds can’t handle that level of pressure.

Conspiracy Theory: Anderson sold being hurt/under threat in their first fight. He just wanted to put on a show to win back the fans after the atrocious performance against Demian Maia.
wasnt it just because anderson was injured and chael was roided to the gills?

I don't know Moe, and neither does Chael. The knee hit the body and the face. Anderson won just like Matt Hamill won against Jon Jones. High pitch voice only because his balls hang so low.
You don't get a high pitched voice from low hanging balls. The higher up the balls are, the higher the voice. Knee was straight up in the chest. You just too big of a fangirl of Chael, which is obvious by you talking about his balls.

Sherdog dipshit analysis 101.

It was a problem for him. Dude even went to a sports psychologist for it. Yes dipshit analysis for sure lol

Plenty of champions visit psychologists. It's simply one of those high level maintenance tools that aren't a consideration to the average Joe.

Looking back at his career, the only loss he really should be mad about is Tito. He should have really beat Tito, lol.
