It is all "Yes sir/maam, no sir/maam" type stuff from me when I get pulled over.
 
putting a mask on is like your 10th thing to do, after tossing your beer, putting your cell phone down, putting your seatbelt back on, while thinking up an excuse why you're on the wrong side of the road with moose antlers and feathers stuck in the front grille.
 
A lot of people apologize for not wearing a mask or ask if they should pull it down when they hand over their license. For the most part, I could care less (although the sunglasses, mask on, hat/headwrap combo might warrant a quick peek.)

That was our procedure for a while but then people started complaining that we weren't doing enough (unsurprisingly coinciding with the influx of seasonal residents from Brooklyn.) Of course, in NJ, ticket quotas are illegal but "performance evaluations" regarding diligence in monitoring traffic laws? Those are still in effect.

I realized the best solution is mask on but pulled down to a chin diaper
