So hypothetical situation

If i were to find out about someone who is far beyond the years of intermediate division is still competing in intermediate division frequently 'to get more matches' and also 'scared of heel hooks'...
What would an appropriate response be?

Did you lose to him at a tournament? Does he smash everyone? Is the definition well defined?

If there is a chance you don't know the whole story probably best to let it go. Everyone has a story. Some good some bad. But unless it really effects you just keep walking.

Nothing new. There will always be peope like that.

I know a guy who competed in a no gi intermediate division with like 7-8 years experience. One of my students told me he said that,"There are too many black belt sandbaggers in the advanced division".

Yup....

If I were to find out about a person like that, I would have a three course plan of action.

1. Eat dinner (assuming that is appropriate, given the time of day and what not)
2. Get a good nights sleep
3. Live my life as usual

Good luck to you. If you follow that plan of action, I guarantee things will work out.

Some promoters will shut that stuff down if they're diligent about it. Or, you could just not worry about it. With an attitude like that he probably won't ever get that much better than intermediate skill level and eventually you'll surpass him. (I assume he takes a similar approach to his training.)

I was working a scorers table at Naga this past weekend and there were a few people like that, me and my ref both noticed it immediately and discussed telling the people they need to bump to the next division.

Its not fair to the other competitors to sandbag, regardless of the reason... its especially frustrating when you drop nearly 100 bucks and get smashed first match by some guy who clearly doesnt belong in your division. If youre too scared to face tougher competition you shouldnt be competing.

I thought the answer was obvious but no one has said it.

You heelhook him.

He might have a valid point about the heelhooks.

If advanced divisions has heelhhok and he does not want to compete with hh.

Then maybe he shouldn't be competing in a tournament that allows them.

Whenever I read thread titles like these, I always feel the instinct to put 'hypothetical' in scare quotes.
