This is an interesting situation for rankings. Both Divisional and P4P.
Conor beats long time champion and becomes one of the top P4P fighters.
Then he wants to get a second belt, but was submitted by a lower ranked late replacement.
We have many examples where lower ranked fighters were given chance to fight top fighter and won:
Our algorithm have part that makes sure most recent winner is ranked above loser. There are exceptions, but that is almost a rule for most recent win.
However, this time it was low ranked LW winning over top FW. What should be the rule in that case?
Should Conor go down in FW Current Rankings?
If not, that means he is fighting without consequence. Losing has no penalty.
If yes, then how much should he go down in P4P rankings. Any rule that can be applied to everybody?
Should Nate go higher in LW rankings? What should be his reward?
Final question.
If Conor declared that he is going to LW (which he did) and not going back to FW (UFC should strip him of FW belt), and he fights Nate at 155 (because Nate is LW), what would change in your ranking?
We can say that Conor fighting for LW belt is like him being #2 LW. If Nate beats #2, he makes a case to be #2.

- T.J. Dillashaw didn't beat anybody in top 10 and had recent loss to Assuncao. And he dethroned Barao.
- even Jon Jones wasn't ranked high when he got shot at champ Rua
- before defeating Fedor, Fabricio Werdum was low in rankings (KO'd by JDS, fought LHW Kyle, boring decision with Antonio Silva)
- Matt Serra was not even top 15 LW before he KO'd GSP.
- Mark Coleman was not even in top 25 before he won PRIDE Grand Prix 2000 and jumped to #1 HW.
