How would McGregor vs Aldo 2 @ 145 play out?

Wow, the Conor fan boys are out today!

There are a couple different reasons why the UFC refused to give Aldo the instant rematch he deserved. One of them is they didn't want to risk Conor losing.

Aldo is an all-time great who got caught. It happens. If Cain and JDS never fought a 2nd and 3rd time, then you would've thought that JDS was gonna own him every single time. Same with Rockhold/Bisping and Hughes/St. Pierre. The idea that rematches can end differently is nothing new.

If Conor and Aldo fought again at 145lbs, I would expect that Aldo would employ a much more disciplined game plan that involved wearing Conor out in the championship rounds. He's done that before to numerous opponents, and Conor is proven to not fight very well in the championship rounds.

Aldo wearing people out in the championship rounds? LMAO have you ever seen Aldo fights. He always fades late

Lol at the Khabib fans saying that Conor cant make 145. He never had any trouble making the weight it was super easy for him because of his willpower even if he looked drained.
He just needs to lose some muscle mass just like Aldo did the real question is why would he do that when there are bigger fights at heavier weights.

I would bet it would last longer than 12 seconds

what are the odds it goes less than that?

It's weird when you remember Aldo used to be considered a large FW and it was only a matter of time till he moved up to LW. Now he's moved down to manlet and Conor is tree times his size.

It's not even a realistic hypothetical. Conor will never fight at 145 again and Aldo can be fortunate enough at 135 due to the overall decline of mma and actually be a player at 135. I don't see a title but his career extended as a relevant fighter

In the 2nd Mendes and Edgar fights, Aldo definitely got the better of both guys in the later rounds. Same when he fought Florian. Granted, he has tired out in later rounds in other fights (Frankie 1 and Lamas comes to mind) but he is usually very competitive and able to steal rounds when he has too.

More importantly though, even though Aldo tires, McGregor falls apart. He would only have to keep it together long enough to get Conor in the 3rd round. By that point in time, I could easily picture Aldo taking him down and choking him out.

No different than it it would have played out right after it happened. Aldo got caught. It would not happen again. We know and knewn that. I love Conors rise to 145 lbs belt and all after but no way he does that to Aldo again.

Im a huge Conor fan. He was blessed with that finish and no rematch coming from the fighter that cherish the Diaz rematch so much. As a fan I feel ripped.

Aldo was undefeated for years at the highest level. No one at 145 compares! Only ever 145 lb UFC Champ bro! WEC Champ lineage till that fight! Aldo is a stud!

145lb title is the real deal for real fight fans. Conor aint making that again. But when he did it was epic in the literal sense!
This is so inaccurate it's hilarious.

Aldo DID NOT get caught, McGregor timed him coming in and countered him thus KO'ing him. He was in no way blessed, he called the fucking shot months leading upto the fight.

Conor knew exactly how to beat Aldo and he did it, if you can see something, then call it and do it then it is not a fluke. Anyone with even the smallest amount of boxing knowledge or experience can tell you McGregor knew exactly what he was doing that night.

Nice fanfic.

Conveniently ignoring him getting battered by Max 2x and Tan.

Aldo was offered and turned down another chance at Mcgregor.

There is ALWAYS an excuse, remember that.

In reality, Aldo got bullied all around the world for months, mocked, taunted, abused and then KO'd silly in 13 seconds and then sat crying after. Mcgregor may aswell have shagged his wife while at it.

Sad to see a legend like Aldo go out like that but Conor doesn't give a fuck.

Problem is that he still fought in a way that would get him KO’d by Conor, even after the fight. I’d be more interested in a younger Aldo that still threw kicks fighting Conor

Bingo. That Aldo is gone.

People act like he forgot how to throw leg kicks, or it was a choice.

He got injured and COULDN’T throw those violent leg kicks anymore. He wouldn’t have voluntarily given up his best weapon.

Props to Aldo that he adapted to continue being successful without those brutal kicks.

I dont think anyone is beating Conor at 145. It would end like the first fight, but a bit longer.

Zzzzzz

we using this tiredass joke in 2021 and onwards aswell?

I hope he KO’s Poirier in violent fashion so I don’t have to read this boring shit anymore

u think him ko’ing will make them change their mind lol?

they’ll claim either it was rigged and Dustins chin is gone

So they matched him up against Dos Anjos at the height of his prime, who was champion of the division above... because they didn't want to risk him losing to the guy that he had had just knocked out.

Putting it politely, I think your logic is a little flawed.

Those are different style matchups. Max is a cardio machine and Yan is shaping up to be a killer. Plus, I already acknowledged that Aldo has faded in past matchups; however, just as there are examples of when he's tired out in championship rounds, there are other examples of him thriving, too.

McGregor, on the other hand, has NEVER shown that he can be competitive in championship rounds. He kinda/sorta did against Diaz when he came alive in the 4th, but by that point, Diaz was already busted up and not pushing an incredibly high pace, either. And, of course, Conor ended the 5th round of that fight eating ground and pound from Nate. Plus, I don't need to remind anybody how it went with Khabib.

My point is, there is a blueprint to beating Conor, and Aldo is definitely good enough to follow it. The UFC will never let that fight happen, but if it did, Aldo would get his hand raised more often than not.

I do agree with you that Aldo let Conor get into his head. That was very obvious. I think another part of it was that nobody knew much about Conor back then. The UFC chose opponents that were intended to make him look good, and nobody knew what would become of Poirier and Holloway down the road.

As for the rematch, I don't blame Aldo for turning it down as it was a for a late replacement. He's the only long time dominant champ I can think of who was not granted an immediate rematch after losing.

JDS Countered Velasquez in their first fight. If the rematch didn't happen then people like you would be spurting the same crap. Every fight is different mate. Both fighters are world class and Aldo has all the tools to beat McGregor.
