How would have Brock vs. Fabricio Werdum gone?

Tossup.

Bork either catches him quickly with the double and hammer fists him to an awkward TKO finish or Werdum sinks in the triangle or armbar. That was buttscoot era Werdum who hadn't unleashed his striking chops so who knows?

Around the time of Brock defending the title against Carwin or losing it to Cain, Werdum had some pity for Brock taking such vicious beatings and he said that he would beat Brock without striking him with a single punch.

And he was right. I've been an avid MMA watcher for 18 years(and saw a few HL's before 08 here and there) and I have not seen a bigger submission threat than Werdum. Whether he was taken down or took his opponent down, it took no longer than 30-60 seconds before his opponent was already fighting out of a sub.

He was built for this and the problem HW's faced against him is that he was a huge guy with disproportionate strength and no fear of strikes coming his way.

When he started becoming a dangerous striker as well it was almost unfair. No shocker that he took the SF and UFC belts in historic victories.

Brock was champ 08-2010, Werdum peaked against Bigfoot in 09.

I even have doubt seeing Brock not fall into Buttscoot Werrdum's traps either. Is brock smart enough to use Ubereem's strategy? Doubtful.

I think Werdum would've had better luck than Mir, trying to implement his ground game from the bottom.

Interesting match up, actually.

Werdum. He would have tkod him or submitted him. I can see Brock getting on top and then getting armbared. Horrible match for brock

I think Werdum was good enough to hurt Brock on the feet and savvy enough to snag something while Brock tried spamming hammer fists. The only time (that I can remember) that we saw Brock land some really vicious ground and pound was in the Mir rematch. Werdum is a lot better off of his back than Mir is and a lot more durable on the feet.

Interesting fight , I got Werdum by sub

i wanna say werdum gets the sub but brock was a different animal on top, he was close to unstoppable once he got there. mir got him when he was green and i don't think it would happen again, esp with anything more conventional than a leglock.

Werdum could nullify the strength and aggression of Brock with his great guard, remember Werdum vs Silva in SF he was getting gnp badly in that fight until he turned it around and won a decision I think he could deal with Brock but it's not for certain Brock had power in his hands and hurt you quickly but I'd go with Werdum.

Thinking that because Brock gnp'd Frank Mir that he could do that to Werdum shows just how people have no idea how to tell the difference of levels between grapplers. Frank struggles with strength guys, and his ground game isn't centered around fighting off his back.

Brock would have very little chance against Werdum. Werdum is both just a greater fighter (top ten, if not five all time) and a stylistic nightmare.
Frank Mir broke Nogs arm and Nog completely shut down Werdum on the ground... I think you have a bias

I would have loved to have seen that fight, would have been a fun style matchup, its a shame it never happened.

Hunt was in werdums guard and survived. So did overeem

Bjj guards are overrated

Werdum also crumpled Hunt with a knee (and then pounded him out on the ground).

Some seem to be forgetting that Werdum's standup isn't shit...he would have a big advantage over Brock on the feet.

Werdum by Sub.

But he'd have to weather the early storm, and I'm not absolutely convinced he'd get the sub off his back, either, even though he's clearly capable.

Think he'd be waiting until R2 or R3 or something before wrapping it up.

That said, Werdum would also have a chance on the feet.

Are we talking peak for peak? Werdum is generally a bad matchup for Brock. Frank Mir fought stupidly in their second fight
