How would GSP vs. Chimaev go?

as long as they fought at WW, GSP jabs him to death all day long. 50-45, 49-46 at the worst. no one at WW was taking GSP down and khazmat has no chance on the feet.

GSP couldn’t even submit pure strikers like Hardy and Alves. Khamzat submitted legit good grapplers like Holland, Whittaker and Li and he made it look easy. GSP has been submitted too. Khamzat definitely has a decent edge in BJJ over GSP.

Matt frickin Serra boxed his head off. GSP’s jab, superman punch and few leg kicks only work when his opponents are scared of his TD’s or are beginner level on the feet. Hendricks smashed his face too.

Usman has way better combos, more variety and legit one shot KO power. I’d say he’s better on the feet than GSP

You seem to really want to argue with someone about an imaginary match lol. GSP was training with russian and georgian wrestlers in olympic centers before MMA fans like you starting creaming your pants over caucus wrestlers. He was a black belt training with danaher before danaher become a big thing in BJJ, too. The guy was Submitting people before Khamzat got his first beard. Unlike khamzat, GSP proved himself against a gauntlet of stlyes of all varieties several times over.

The entirety of your argument comes down to you thinking Khamzat would ragdoll him. It's a stupid argument because we'll never know if that's true. However, GSP is far more proven against high level wrestlers than khamzat is. GSP passed the wrestling test many, many times. Khamzat struggled with the only wrestler he faced in the UFC, and it was past prime, coming off two losses, 10 day notice, 36 year old kamaru usman, in a higher weight class that Khamzat bulked for and Usman had no time to bulk for.

Lol, this thread is about an imaginary matchup in which you decided to post😂 What else should we argue about? What came first, the egg or the chicken?

You greatly underestimated Kamaru there. 36 years is nothing, that’s been proven time and time again. Usman was coming off 2 losses, both in title fights and he barely won both of them. He also completely outclassed Buckley, who was a legit contender at WW. Usman looked and fought exactly like he always did and Khamzat absolutely dominated him in the wrestling/grappling like on ever could.

Khamzat grew up wrestling the best in the world and still continues to do so. If he would’ve continued in wrestling not MMA, he would’ve probably be an Olympic medalist by now. GSP never was on that level

And Jose Caceres submitted Usman, yet Khamzat didn’t. My goodness, I guess Cacres has far better grappling than Khamzat, eh? Strange that Caceres’ MMA record is so mediocre… ;)

I think you need to make up your mind about what version of GSP is in this fantasy matchup. You make this mistake frequently, it’s why your analyses are always so wonky. You compare a current fighter (and therefore a fairly current version) to a past fighter with a long career where you try and cherry-pick things.
Are you imagining current Khamzat vs the 2007 version of GSP, the 2013 version of GSP who was post knee surgery and about to retire, or some version in between? From 2008-2012, no one was out grappling GSP or outsriking him.

You say GSP’s striking works when his opponents are beginners on the feet, and guess what? Khamzat isn’t super well-polished on the feet. Usman and especially Burns showed all sorts of flaws in Khamzat’s standup. Now granted, those fights were a couple of years ago, but I haven’t seen much to indicas that those flaws no longer exist.

Yes, I decided to post my opinion. Not get into a debate about it, but you wanted one apparently. I do not greatly underestimate 36 year old usman after two losses, especially when he was giving up 15lbs in size. It's the only wrestler we've seen khamzat against in the UFC, and Khamzat struggled. That's all we have to go off of. GSP is far more proven against high level wrestlers than Khamzat is. More proven than Usman against that style too. It's undeniable. You have no Idea what Khamzat would look like when he needs to deal with a blast double or a jab in his face every time he tries to pressure.

Part of Khamzat's charm is that he has a very specific wrestling style mixed with good BJJ. Like I said, though, GSP was in the olympic centers specifically with caucus wrestlers for many years -- they are the ones who literally taught him wrestling -- and he was a black belt in BJJ from one of the more highly regarded BJJ coaches in the past 25 years. He proved himself time and time and time again. Khamzat is awesome, an amazing fighter, but he has a bit more to prove until I can say that he'd beat one of the best fighters this sport has ever seen in his prime.

Sorry, one quick point about this. GSP was invited to try out for the Canadian Olympic Team, and planned to try for the Olympics in 2008 and 2012 but couldn’t due to MMA commitments.

I don’t disagree that Khamzat is obviously a very high level wrestler, but to say “GSP was never on that level” is just wrong.

Whittaker actually represented Australia internationally in freestyle wrestling. It doesn’t mean shit against someone like Khamzat
