With all these MMA vs Boxing threads lately is making me wonder how well would Cruz do in boixng? Is his footwork and skills up to scratch?

I say no. But I know not that much. All I know is Cruz is an MMA figjter, so his focus has been more spread out than only focusing on boxing.

BUT, he does have great footwork; that would help a lot.

BUT, not a lot of KO power, so that's not good.

Perhaps with 3 years of training under Freddie Roach.

I say no, but I know not much.

Like the rest of them. Boxed up and sent back with an L.

Not well. Cruz style is optimal in the very large, octagon shaped cage. In a ring people would be able to cut him off much more easily.

Might be interesting if he boxed in a cage with MMA gloves, but in a boxing setting he would be terrible.

He doesn't like exchanges for a reason, far less power than his opponents and is hittable in the pocket. If he's in a smaller cage he gets cut off and boxed up.

I personally feel he would do better than most ( I am looking at you Conor ) but at the end of the day, he is an MMA fighter. It takes can take over a decade to become a great boxer. The more specialized a sport is, the harder it is to compete at a high level. Combine that with the fact that you need to be an amazing boxer in order to compete without much power, and it will be difficult.

Saying all that, if anyone can do it, it is Cruz. The dude is a fighting Savant. Smarter and more determined than 99% of all fighters out there. He seems like the type of guy who would build the game around his style instead of building his style around the game.

His game would probably look like Erislandy Lara in many ways. Great movement and defense but lacking power. Lara is one of the best defensive boxers in the game.

He'd get wrecked.

His hands aren't fast enough

His prowesses won't hold up very well in a boxing environment.

Boxing isn't his strong trait. It's his elusiveness and unorthodox footwork.

He has great footwork and movement, and a lot of that came from boxing.

I think his head movement, footwork, and punching from angles would serve him well.
The negatives for him would be a lack of power, only medium hand speed compared to boxers his size, and a questionable ability to take serious body shots.

If I were comparing all-time fighters, I would say maybe like a slower Pernell Whitaker or if I'm comparing to current fighters, maybe something along the lines of a Ricky Burns from the UK.

His 30 fight record would be (pulling numbers out of my arse, now) 24-6 with 9 KO's.

Cruz with 8 or 10oz gloves on couldn't ko Betty White let alone hurt a "mid-level" pro boxer. His footwork and head movement are his best tools but those will only take you so far against seasoned pros.

He can't do sh1t in boxing. Terrible boxer with soft punches.

If he fights clowns like Kimbo did.

Fine.

If he fights real boxers.

Lights out.

If he was good enough hed be boxing.

No power.. doesn't actually have great hands/technique.. great footwork and movement in the octagon, but wouldn't help him in a smaller boxing ring.. no threat of a takedown for his opponents..

Yea he'd do awesome.

He has really good movement but he lacks the offensive firepower to be a well rounded and successful boxer.

imo he would do fine just not with the top boxers
