How well does Conor do against top ten lightweights?

It takes Conor 1-3 years just to beat 1 guy since he has to rematch until he wins. Taking the rematches into account, he'd be too old to fight the second guy after he rematches the first guy, so he probably only beats 1 guy in the top ten.

I think he could beat Hooker and Tony, but loses to the rest.

If Conor rushes to return, he will lose. He should not worry about trying to get back into title contention or rematching Poirier again. Conor will get paid no matter who he fights, so it makes no sense to wade back into the shark's tank right now.

He really needs to lose Kavanaugh and SBG. Surrounding himself by yes men and ass-kissers is killing him. All of his contingent and friends who are enabling him are simply riding his coattails and ruining him at the same time. As much as I dislike it, Conor could probably talk his way into a title shot at any time, and DW and WME will oblige him.

So why rush it? Pick some easy fights, or opponents that play into his style (ahem... Nate). Not saying Nate is easy, but Conor won't really have to worry about the grappling or wrestling aspect, it will simply be a matter of what gives out first, Diaz's chin or Conor's cardio.

If Conor can put a win or two together and find his drive (instead of his sales pitch), if he actually find his confidence and believe in himself, then Conor can get paid and approach this sensibly. Right now he's on autopilot... got to be the best, have to be the star, need to be in the biggest fights. He needs fights where he can shine. Whether it is at 145 or 155, he needs to ground himself and make it about the fighting again instead of the showmanship.

Conor is nothing without IVs that allowed him to beat up manlets at FW

Charles - smokes Connor 100/100 times
Poirier - as above
Gaethje - as above
Dariush - Dariush favourite (-250)
Chandler - Chandler favourite (-450)
Ferg - 50/50 only because Tony is shot
Rda - RDA favourite (-450)
Hooker - smokes Conor 100/100 times
Islam - as above
Gillepse - 50/50 cause both are overrated bums

Charles
Poirier
Gaethje
Dariush
Chandler
Ferg
Rda
Hooker
Islam
Gillepse

He beats everyone except Gaethje and Diamond imo. RDA, Islam, Dariush and Aloe Vera are 50-50 fights.

Only clear victory would be a shot Tony or Dan Hooker
Remove ferguson and hooker from that list. They really don't belong imo.
But I think they all beat him.
What? Is conor gonna knock hooker out now? Or tony? Lol
Islam, rda, dariush, gillespie all slam him through the octagon.
Chandler does the same or knocks him out.
Poirier via head kick because why not? He owns conor now. Oliveira Peruvian necktie because rncs are just not swaggy enough. Conor is not elite. I think his unwillingness to defend the belt or fight contenders in high stakes fights tells you everything you need to know.

Hooker is durable as hell and can hit hard. Yeah Chandler put him away but he’s also shown that he can take a ton of of punishment and keep standing (Barboza, Poirier, etc.) Both have some cardio issues. That’s a 50/50 fight. The only one I would feel somewhat comfortable picking him as a favorite over is Tony, and that’s only because he’s washed and has looked like shit lately. Prime Ferg would melt this Conor in a bad way. And maybe that’s not even a gimme for Conor.

Maybe I’d favor him over Gillespie, but if Gregor can close distance and start to grind on Conor’s gas tank, that could be a rough night for Conor as well.

Obviously guys like Gaethje will be kept away from Conor at all costs, because Conor would get absolutely ruined in probably a violent way. Can’t have that on their cash cow trying to salvage the back end of his career.

I could see him beating Chandler and Hooker. He gets molested by the rest.

Loses to:
Poirier
Gaethje
Dariush
Islam

I'm 50/50 on:
Hooker
Gillispie
Chandler
Ferguson
RDA

Thanks for the thread. I've been saying he can't win in the top 10 but I now see he does have some chances in there. 50/50 or better against half of them. I didn't expect that ratio.

Chandler and RDA would win with their grappling.

Where is Barboza on this list? He'd finish Conor with leg kicks within 3 minutes

Chandler and RDA would win with their grappling.
Definitely is a great possibility. Chandler can be KO'd with a good shot so I gave him 50/50 and I think RDA is old and undersized for Conor so the same. But 50/50 means those guys CAN absolutely win, no question. Just I can't say I'd be utterly shocked if either lost either.

I would be rooting for Chandler and RDA in those matchups.

Conor would do great, beat them all.

No.

He would do pitifully.

At this point? The amount of confidence the top 10 would have going into the fight after watching Dustin break 2x would be immense.

Id favor all of them at this poit with Hooker maybe being the easiest. But then again, Hooker is also a kicker and would exploit Conors weak legs.

He’s only tried it on a guy that beat his ass already.

It's highly overrated anyway. There isn't really any measurable impact it has that you can attribute to it.

He should try another attempt at 145. He doesn't have the knockout power at 155.

false. He has the knockout power. Mac in his last four fights save for Cerrone, doesn't have snap to his punches, like someone who hasnt sparred in forever.

Stress fracture free? Family at weigh ins, or no? These are critical questions that need answering TS.

hard to tell people want to make out like hes a bum but he has only lost to khabib and #1 ranked poirier. he landed on poirier in both recent fights, especially the first rematch. who knows how the other guys at LW would handle his boxing or how their chins would hold up against that. he could end up landing even more on them, most these guys probably havent experienced anybody with conors hands. he surprises people with shots. dustin is the top guy in the division so losing to him doesnt make him a bum. we shall see. the wrestlers are a bad matchup but he has underrated TDD, his last 2 fights have just been sloppy in that regard for some reason
The flip side of the fact that he's only lost to Khabib and Poirier is that he hasn't fought other top fighters. Those are the only LW fights he's fought, except for when he moved up to face Alvarez.

So, we have to speculate, rely on MMA-math, and observe that the other fighters on the list have given much better and longer lasting efforts against similar opposition. I think Poirier and Gathje run right through Conor. I don't think he's favored against the rest of the Top 5. He's probably favored against the rest of the Top Ten. But who knows?
