Wrestle for 1 season in highschool, sucked. i was good at take downs...pretty much standing up. but as soon as the guy gets me in a half nelson i knew it was over. coaches never gave me tips on how to not get pinned and barely corrected my mistakes. i know deep down i would be a good wrestler under the right coaching. i rolled with a purple belt bjj instructor standing up he couldnt take my back at all even though he had me in a headlock. thanks to my wrestling background. i hope some wrestler here can help me, maybe some day it will come in handy.

Are you looking for advice on how to not get pinned or how to not get turned and pinned with a half? A defense to a half nelson is to keep your head up, look away and peel their hand off with the same side arm they are going for the half on.

Not getting pinned altogether is a different story. Rather than bridging up, try to bridge to one side, like you're trying to spin over one shoulder. This action helps to keep the opposite shoulder off the mat.
