I only ask because it seems to me that a decent percentage of people in here have a genuine fear that there's an actual possibility of the USA becoming a communist country. From an outside perspective I would have thought that was pretty much impossible.

Interested as to whether people just don't want the country to include more aspects of socialism (without becoming socialist) or whether people think there's a genuine chance of a commie America?

Once China takes over America it will turn communist.

Every single country is always at risk of being oppressed by a communist regime if you don't keep up the work against it, so being genuinely concerned about it is always rational and important. It works like cancer.

There are parts of the Democrat party that have become more pro- communist top down authoritarian type government in the last few years. This is more so than I can recall in my past. I hope we don't become like Cuba, Venezuela or China for that matter.

I think people forget how quickly our world can change.

Authoritarianism is currently being emboldened everywhere, while the plebs argue which definition of domination is better!

And these are the days of our lives...

On paper, you would think it's unlikely. That being said, there is 100% an attempt at bringing it. There is a massive element of the American Left who are clearly heavily entrenched in, and influenced by, traditional Communist values and dogma. I have a suspicion that it's origin, might be coming from somewhere like China. There must be an outside influence funding a lot of this shite, BLM in particular - and given their proud statements of being classically trained Marxists, it's highly realistic to think that a Communist superpower would be interested in funding them to cause disharmony, chaos and destruction in a rival superpower country. Highly realistic.

I think if you asked 9 of of 10 people who hate communism what exactly communism was they couldn't give you an accurate definition.

Taxes aren't communism. Treating all lifestyles with respect and equality isn't communism. Having affordable healthcare isn't communism.

Communism failed for a multitude of reasons. It is nowhere close to being an American thing

Agreed, on all of the above. Communism for me, is telling people we're all equal and all deserve an equal slice of the pie (IE - Fuck all, creating a poverty class) - and that's bullshit. We aren't all equal and we don't all deserve an equal slice of the pie. Why should a doctor who's spent 10yrs at university, accruing 50k of debt to become a doctor, be equal to someone who left school at 14 to do drugs and get several underage girls pregnant?

We are not all equal and we do not deserve equal outcomes.

America is not remotely close to Communism and won't be for the forseable future. The Communist fear mongering from Conservative America is just rehashing the 50s and 60s.

No Democrat actually wants Communism. Folks like Bernie and AOC want Universal Health Care, better government services and benefits, free college, better enviromental laws etc...

Probably one of the most likely in the OECD.

Ironically, largely due to a fear of communism.

Revolution is brought about by treating the masses poorly and shirking all the programs that Americans think are communist.

It would take a revolution in order for Communism to be an actual thing in this country. Even if the South's wet dream of revolution occurred and there was a real secession, the Northern (Dem) states would continue to be a Democracy.

This notion of the Dems wanting Communism is a fantasy created by the GOP to scare its base. This is on par with every other fear mongering tactic the come up with to win votes. Remember by now according to the GOP people would be marrying animals in droves.

lmao America has been and will always be the last holdout on the current economic dogma around capitalism, "free markets", and will be the last refuge for the mega wealthy

in reality the country has grown the police state massively in my lifetime, patriot act, militarization, war on drugs etc

This highlights the problem here. First of all not knowing what communism is, second, creating a strawman. Where is the movement to pay a jobless drug addict the same as a medical doctor? Who is fighting for this?

What makes the US anymore immune to it than any of the other countries that went Communist?

And how about fascism? The left is constantly talking about Nazis and fascists. Are we in danger of the US becoming the 4th Reich?

The United States has become a corporate oligarchy fueled by mass media and social media plus they utilize big tech and big pharma to control the population. Anyone who wants to argue against that much is so far off that it isn't worth their time

Whatever Communist Marxist Fascist control system the oligarchs plan to use is irrelevant. The democratic elections were in question starting in 2017 with Russiagate by the liberal, left leaning media and the democratic elections were in question by Q or whatever the fuck was happening in Jan 2021 by the right wing conservatives.

As a citizen of the USA, what difference does a label make to me? I'm a cuck if I don't question this bullshit and I'm a conspiracy theorist if I do. At some point you just start to not give a fuck. Demoralization? I guess the next step will be some form of Destabilization or crisis if it hasn't already happened

Look, I don't know if where we are going is going to meet some academic definition of communism. But we are undoubtedly seeing an extremely rapid merger of corporation and government, and an all out assault on individual autonomy. We are a surveillance state where the government controls every aspect of your daily life through their stooge intermediary--the corporation.

The US becoming a fascist state seems equally unlikely to me. Also open to hearing about why people think that could be the case.
