How Over Hyped was Thiago Santos?

Pre Jon Jones fight he was a beast, but he took entirely way too much damage from that fight to ever get back to that level again.

He's no Thiago Silva :cool::cool::cool:

Ko'd jan and put a whooping on jones. Overhyped? Really? He clobbered jon with no knees and arguably won. His recent skid can be attributed to said lack of kness and trying to recover from that in his mid 30s.

FWIW I never thought the guy was a world beater just a really nasty fighter with heavy hands. Kinda like a Brazilian rumble

He's one of the beastliest LHW's since Rumble. And besides the power he has some of the nastiest thai kicks in the sport. A guy like that can beat anybody.

It seems the injuries have taken something out of him. The Rakic fight was weird, but against Glover he proved he's still super dangerous, just had no answer to Glover's grappling. I'm not ready to call him over the hill just yet. Walker fight is gonna be very interesting

We seemed to know what to expect from Thiago. I very good fights with KO ability. Was good enough to KO mid-level guys then when he got to the big leagues showed that he couldn't hang. KOing everyone then fights Moose who made it look like he didn't belong in there. Holland had a similar rise where he had a string of right match ups but ended up in a position he probably shouldn't be in. Holland has a win against Souza which we now know wasn't that great for what state he's in. Then two straight fights with high level guys and two loses in a row.

Thiago then beats Anders and Manuwa, both mid level guys. Manuwa has always been hyped as a top LHW but we all know he's in there to get KO'd and make a name. Jan was a good win then the close fight with Jones put him into the position to keep fighting high level guys. He is now on a 3 fight win streak. He's been knocked down now to fight someone more his speed in Walker so I expect an easy KO>
so is jan a mid tier now

he Arguably beat rakic pass his prime more Arguably than he beat jones in his prime yes he was injured but with the way he performed he was probably taken over by adrenaline

KO’d the current champ not too long ago. Arguably won that decision over Jones with every ligament in both knees trashed. Unfortunately was a career altering fight/injury. He was a great fighter. Hope he can snatch a couple more highlight reel KO’s before he retires.
He is the type of guy that win some and lose some.

Big KO power that can freeze opponents and make them look bad (Jones, Rakic).

He has a suspect chin tho. Big Mousasi fan but Gegard does not 1 punch KO people.

He’s properly rated. I don’t see a lot of people calling him a Top 10 all time LHW or anything like that.

He’s in the Top 5 range and on any given day can shut anyone’s lights out in the division. The rest of his game needs a little bit more polish. None of this is a secret.

meh, only 3 KO/TKO he’s been in there with heavy hitters like Hall, slung absolute hellfire back and forth with Manuwa, Smith, Jan, Anders, Glover. That Gegard punch was more timing and accuracy than anything. Branch blitzed him with like 10 punches to stop him if I remember correctly.

Jones derailed him imo, he was out for a while at his age and that injury nothing is the same, not every matchup is going to be that close i guess.

He had like 6 or 7 fights in one year and he was one of the best action fighters in the world before he busted his knees almost dethroning Jones

There is no such thing as too much hype for such a warrior

He put up a great fight against Jones while handicapped to the point that some fighters might not have continued. He also knocked out the current LHW champ. If his knees didn't go out against Jones he might've won and his follow up fights probably would've been better performances.
