How often should you wash your gi?

18446744073709551616 is 2 squared 6 times. i picked that number because bacteria divide every 30 minutes to hour. then realize you probably rolled in a colony of bacteria yourself, because stinky didn't wash himself/his gi. great job fellas.

First that's not 2 elevated to 6 which is what you meant, if your above statement was true, then it would account for a mass of around 100 metric tons, which you may realize by now its plain stupid.

2^6 is 64, not even a byte of information which is 2^8, this of course doesnt accounts the fact that you get a shitload of bacteria per exposure, but also doesnt accounts the fact that the 20 minutes is under ideal conditions of temperature and nutrition.

How about we compromise and leave it as "wash as frequent as you can".

how about train as frequent as you can wash.

if you haven't washed your gi don't be offended if I don't drill/roll/come near you, it's not you, it's your gi.

Good thing the people that train the hardest are not as picky as you are, id roll with them first.

If you are wondering, i wash once a day, if i go to multiple classes im bringing my sweaty gi with me.

No, you're wrong. The growth is exponential. It's not squaring the number every generation, but multiplying by something, like 2 or 4 or whatever. Think of people: if every couple has 4 kids and then dies, there are twice as many people each generation than the one before. So 2 people, 4 kids, 8 grandkids, 16, and so on. That's doubling, not squaring. Adjust for additional death, or whatever and it's still exponential. There's a lot of stuff that can make it more complicated, like competition for resources which can slow it down below exponential growth, but first thing you've got to understand is the exponential growth. You know a lot about judo, but sorry, not much about math.

Yea so how much do you train? I train on average 15 lessons a week and take a new gi for every class. When I train back to back I take new gis to change into. If I train in the morning and then at night I take a new gi to each class.

Don't mistake training hard with being unhygienic and lazy about washing gi's. Two very completely different things.

When I only had 3 gis I would get home at midnight after training but would still wash and hang them before bed, so they would dry for the next nights training. Having a clean gi is part of being a good training partner.

Budget gi's are cheap enough that there is no excuse for you to not own enough to train with a clean gi everytime.

I sweat so much during the warm-up that I wouldn't use that Gi again without washing.

The only time I would use it for 2 sessions is if they were back to back sessions.

The thought of people air drying their Gi to make it 'clean' is pretty laughable.

^^This. Once the gi comes off it goes straight from my gym bag into the wash. If I have a morning class and it's been in the gym bag all day, then the gym bag goes in the wash too.

Any of you guys in this thread been training in Brazil?
:icon_chee

I train about 10 times a week and I own 3 Gis. Wash them all once a week, so i use one about 3-4 times before its washed. I live in a place in brazil where its warm and dry and windy all year around, and i always keep them in the sun/wind.
am i dusgusting/?? im worried now.. thinking I was all clean
This is how most people do it around here... not necessarily washing after every single training session, but its better to wash more than less, definetely! :)
if you stink at my academy, thats bad news for you and professor will be mad.

same here man, i used to train around 10 times a week with three gis. many dudes hang their gis out the academy window to dry between training sessions. skin diseases doesn't seem more common here, might have encountered one or two smelly gis but nothing unbearable.
