How often did/do you hard spar?

I dunno that I've ever really hard sparred. Some guys hit harder than others but I've rarely met a real asshole and on the few times I have I'm outta there quick. And I've never said "let's go hard on this one" I don't think.

So fat old man wuss me is not giving any advice. But I'm curious, when you hard spar is it like 4 rounds with someone and that's it for the night or for like a 90 minute session are you going full blast with a bunch of different opponents?

To elaborate though if it’s 4 rounds it’s usually with the same 2 partners. Sometimes they shark tank you because they get to rest. Sometimes one spars other people in the gym while you spar the other one. That’s usually training camp, preparing for a specific person.

If not in camp it’s open sparring, sometimes you can get 4-10 rounds with all types different people. Obviously some spar harder than others

None.

I used to like sparring hard, you could almost say, that I was addicted to the adrenaline rush I got from a hard sparring session. Then I got caught with a hard high kick once. I didn't get dropped or anything, I just couldn't think straight for more than a week and I got "foggy" brain for more than a week. I got really scared and stopped sparring completely. If I do, I spar only with partners that I know are experienced enough to go very lightly. No beginners or even girls, lol.

Bj Penn
Max Holloway who else
One fc contenders and current bellator fighters. One current UFC fighter and a bunch of people who were in the UFC.

I don’t train with Christian Lee but he’s a top name along with Yancy Mederios.

We have a lot of other talent but you probably wouldn’t recognize the names

Where does Max train and Bj? Max lives on your island

try getting used to using head gear. I didnt like it at first, but its cool because using the headgear, is like going medium with no head gear, but now you can go 100 with the head gear but it still feels like going medium without. It will help "mellow" things out a bit

In my younger days... two or three times a week of hard sparring but I was young and could bounce back. I'm 50 now so not much anymore .. mostly jiu jitsu and bag work now

It’s probably not a great idea for most people to do a hard spar more than 2-3 times a year.
If you’re not interested in seriously competing, you don’t need a hard spar for anything but just the experience of getting clocked.

I would spar 2-3x a week depending on who showed up, usually Wednesday was the hard spar day.

These days as a coach, i have my guys spar 1-2 times a week. They are light on the striking but the wrestling and grappling portion of the sparring is more intense. Of course if someone has a fight intensity varies

I'm a fan of tons of sparring but not getting hurt. Like 100% effort but way less power. If a shot goes Trough hard it doesn't have to change the sparring into something too violent. Just relax and work. You don't have to get even on anything. Sparring is the best workout for a kickboxer.

The Thais do it right, they spar non stop. But light. A fight is where you should go hard and try to hurt and injure the other guy as much as you can
