How much sleep do you get everyday to have a productive workout?

I work from 8am-6pm on weekdays, so I'm having hard time getting 8 hours of sleep and still working out after office.

7-8 hours for me. 9 hours ideally. Less than 7 hours and I am a zombie.

Yeah that's rough. I work 8am - 4pm catch the 4:40 cardio class and get home for dinner, works ok. I'm in bed early usually, 9pm and up and 6, usually more than enough sleep.

For me, timing is just as important, if I go to bed 2 hours later and wake up 2 hours than usual, I still feel sluggish.

Your an animal. I could do that but would catch up by weeks end.
But I stopped training altogether. So the animal comment doesn't count. I also thought I could get away with it and just sleep for 2 days during the weekends. But no. Probably an hr or 2 more.

7-9 is optimum
people saying less are lying or deluded

For a productive workout, I would love 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Unfortunately, the last few years I’ve been averaging about 4 hours of crappy sleep. So I have been sluggish AF at BJJ after work. I have been stuck at the same level (skill and rank). I haven’t even wanted to train much. Mostly going because it’s b come routine. I totally blame my lack of sleep.

To be at my best I need 8-10 hours sleep. Sleep earlier and workout before work. Jobs suck man, Im envious of future generations that dont have to deal with this bullshit.

This. I'm done doing the 4-6 hours per night thing. I aim for 8, less then 7 and I'm dragging ass.

I get 5 on weekdays 7-8 on weekends. It works fine for me, Tiger Woods gets 5 every night and has since childhood and he did ok for himself.

I have small children, so often go with too little sleep. I can feel really weak and unmotivated in the gym on days like that, but the trick is to just go anyway and do what you can. Often times, you freshen up once your heart starts pounding and if you don't, well, even a weakout is better than no workout. Weakout. Coined it!

I try to average 8 hours a night each week. Most days will be near 8 hours, but I'll typically have a day around 6 hours and another day around 10 hours.

"apparently catching up on sleep " is a myth

I meant from the aspect of needing more sleep by the weekend if I attempted 3-4 hrs a night for a week. Not giving the body enough time to recover through later stage rem sleep will result in diminished improvements.

That's a heavy work schedule. You should ditch the job, get on welfare, and you can sleep and workout all you want. You'll get huge and ripped in no time.

7 is good and I try for 6 1/2 per night. Anything more than 7 is rare for me.

When I was younger and a full time athlete I slept 9 -10 hrs a day (including a nap). Completely impractical now.
