Talking about a mid-level UFC fighter, how much money do they charge for endorsing a product?

I know that they have the reebok but what about social media? How much would they charge to promote a health brand per post or sponsor it?

Not a lot unless you're one of the bigger names. I work in the financial field and have a half dozen or so clients that fight in the UFC. Some of them are lower tier and some of my clients have fought for belts. None of them have made significant (6 figures yearly) money from endorsing products.

Mostly like 5-10k here or there. Back pre-rebock deal things were a little difference. You could put logos on your shorts and charge 5-10k a logo. Then mid tier fighters were making 30-100k a fight in sponsorship if they were marketable.

The reebok switch was when they took a good amount of money from UFC fighters pay. Guy Mezger commented on this and said he wanted to barf. Said something along the lines that lines that you only have two ways in making money and its mic time and sponsors. Went into how that crushed the UFC fighters pay. He brought up Michael Jordan in how much he was getting paid by sponsors and the importance of sponsors and fighters relationship but now its UFC and sponsors relationship.

So for argument sake, would it be acceptable to offer a fighter 5 k to endorse a brand?

Also what about Instagram post?

For example, would it be acceptable to offer 250 bucks for a single post mention? In this scenario, lets say the fighter has 10 k subscriber.

Sponsors care about exposure most of all, in the past they were paying for access to the UFC platform.

A fighter with 10k followers prob won't make you a post for $250 unless it was part of a larger campaign. 5k is an acceptable offer for a multi week/month promotional arrangement. As a brand or a company paying any amount for 1 post probably isn't worth it unless they have several hundred k followers.

Also: I'm not in the marketing end so I don't know specifics. I look at tax returns. The info above is just what I've gathered from conversations with UFC fighters while categorizing their income to structure lending for their real-estate investments.

Marketability is really the most important factor. The most important factor is the reach of the ad. A fighter (or a non-fighter) who can reach a large audience would get exponentially more money than someone who just fights in the UFC.

Of course, being a UFC champion or a top 5 fighter takes care of the marketability to a big extent.

This is kind of off though. You didn’t see MJ running up and down the court with sponsors plastered all over his uniform.

Fighters CAN have outside sponsors. They just. Any display them during fights or official UFC events. If Vincent Luque wants to rep condom depot he can, if Colby wants that fat Affliction clothing sponsorship he can. Just not on company time.

Did you ever hear MJ crackin on about Chevrolet at a post game interview?? No. Did he have McDonald’s logos on his uniform? No. But he was still sponsored by them/endorsed them. Nothing stopping a fighter from song the same thing. They just don’t get paid as much because it’s still kind of a weird niche sport not on major league sport levels.

less than 10k followers, 250 dollars for one post is good money.... shit, for that kind of money you can sponsor some Brazilian UFC fighters for one month

On Instagram, a lot of mid-tier fighters (50- 100k followers) seem to get freebies in exchange for making a post with the product. Fighters often include personalized discount codes in the post, which means they almost certainly get commission on sales. The upfront fee they receive is likely minimal.

I'm also in NY so things are probably inflated here. My clients aren't going to make a post for you for $250 if it's a one time thing. Maybe a post a week for $250 with a several month contract.

Agreed. I had a client that was ranked in the top 20 at WW and he was making 35-45k off his fight short/banner sponsors per fight. He was very business oriented and had a clean image.

Really should've given an example of what a mid tier fighter is to you.

A mid tier fighter to me is like a Derrick Brunson. A more high profile mid level fighter. If I had to guess he can probably get 50K to 100K for a years endorsement.

Oddly enough he got a much larger cut of team sponsors. It's almost like those two things are linked hm?

It's hard to look at it this way on a forum like this. This is a very marketing heavy question, involving conversion rates, LTV of the engaged (really depends on the product and such). This question you are asking seems to come from a very specific place. Are you hoping to use fighters to promote your products? What is your motivation here?

How does this work?

Is this affiliated marketing in a sense?

I would be down to split the profit with someone with a name.

A nutrition book. They endorse it and I am happy if they make the lions share. Their gets people through the door and that is all that matters.
