How much longer will we have to put up with this guy?

favorable matchups don't mean that the competition wasn't legit.

but if the UFC really put him through the grinder he would've faced wrestlers before mendes. he didn't. they groomed him with strikers and everyone eats that shit up.

imagine a tall, rangy striker with great precision and power, a suspect groundgame and mediocre takedown defense. what's your first instinct on how he would do in MMA? conor is very athletic, but that's basically his skillset. i heard the saying "in the ring, the truth will eventually find you" used for boxing. i think it applies to MMA as well, and he will be in a world of trouble when he faces a wrestler that won't gas after 5 minutes.

But it's a moot point because that kind of thinking is overly idealistic and didn't actually happen in reality. One can really only go by what has actually happened in reality. It would be great if every single champion had every single facet of every nook and cranny of their MMA game fully tested in order to leave no doubt about it, but it's unrealistic. I agree though, that I would ideally like to see McGregor face a real, fully-trained wrestler. But until that actually happens, I can only go by the competition he has actually faced. /shrug

strikers, strikers and more strikers. mendes has to have a looming asterisk next to it since they woke him up and got him out of bed to fight the next morning - and he still managed to expose the shit out of conor's game.
You should see a doctor about your blood pressure. Maybe a low-sodium diet would help you a lot.

Sorry man, but it will be a while yet. This fight is odd, either guy could win on points, or Diaz could sub him ITD. Either way though, the short notice, the weight, this isn't going to damage the macgregor myth even if he gets shwrecked. But, I agree, if (when) he drops three in a row, then the hype will be over. Fact of the matter is, Edgar will tear him to bits, he's got nothing for RDA, Alvarez, Melendez or Khabib and aldo is likely to bust him up barring another freak KO, but other than that, i think he has even or better odds against a lot of other good fights: Pettis, Cerrone and Ferguson at LW, any of the up-and-coming FW's like Choi, Bektic, Rivera, etc, and fuck, even top guys at WW like Condit and Woodley. If Dana really does want to let conner pick his fights, or give him favorable matchups, there's no reason he can't keep annoying us for a long time to come.

Conor has always talked, the problem is it went from self belief to arrogant bragging as soon as the money came in. Making fun of how much fighters earn and then refusing to fight them, being thankful for the UFC for giving him the exposure to saying they owe him, having witty retorts as press conferences to just constantly talking over people, he use to talk about his superiority in the cage why he should get fights, now its just his superiority in marketability as to why he shouldn't get them.

You're gonna go to bed mad tonight.

Na, I don't get emotionally caught up in this stuff. I mean, I don't ultimately care who wins, but I've always respected the Diaz bros and admittedly love a good ol' hype train derailing in dramatic fashion. Can't wait to read these forums tomorrow.

I don't want to see Conor lose badly but as for the BS marketing tactics UFC has been doing lately I would love for that to come crashing down and bring these new fans to reality.

Sorry despite what posters on here might believe, fighters don't just retire after a loss or two. Conor is going to be around for another couple of years at least winning more big fights than he loses.
he's already gone on record as saying he only wants to make a boat load of money and then get out while he's still healthy. if he's really making 10 mil per right now, i don't see him sticking around too long after a loss or two.

he's going to ride this gravy train along with the fertittas as far as it will go, and when he loses and everyone turns on him like they did ronda, he's going to say "thank you very much" and go hang out on the costa del sol for the rest of his life.

The book is already starting to open on Mr. McGregor's fight game I was so ready to see Rafeal Cordeiro fight plan for Conor but I'm a patient man I can wait.. Come on Nate "Shock" the fans...

Much like Jesus Christ, I love Conor mcgregor, he's a great fighter and personality. And, just like Jesus Christ, it's his fans that let him down and make him seem horrible.

I hope Conor goes on to be the biggest ufc star ever. Why? I liked to see greatness. Just like I wanted to see the Pats go undefeated back in 07.

The more Conor wins...the more the UFC and the sport grows..and the more superfights we'll get. We all know Conor doesnt have a problem fighting in different weight classes.

Hopefully he'll become the Floyd Mayweather of the UFC, but with cajones.

Yes I know Im posting on sherdog, and yes...Im well aware of all the Mcgregor haters about to swarm this response. The fuckin bums

I can't stand his personality, but won't miss any of his fights.
