How much does Khabib's style rely on the cage ?

kabibs depth of knowledge when it comes to grappling takedowns and ground fighting is immense. i strongly believe that if you take one tool away hes got another 50 other high percentage techniques he would use to get the fight to where he wants it. there is no cage in sambo or judo matches. i think kabib is one of the most technical grapplers we have seen.

Khabib's grip is his best strength.

He won't even bother to let go of his grip to throw an elbow.

He will hold onto you with his grip and then slowly improve his position.

The ring works / worked just fine for MMA.

Did the anti ring crowd in this thread actually watch Pride?

The whole point of the cage was for the visual effect.

UFC should go full Pride...if they did, the sport would grow.

Cmon TS. Watch him M-1 and Sambo fights on youtube.

Make your own damn conclusion, then come back and tell us what it is.

Inform yourself. Then lets talk.

Here's I'll even save you the first step:

LOL the first video was the guys 3rd mma fight ever and Khabib was already 6-0 and a two time Sambo champ.

The Agafonev fight Khabib was 9-0 fighting a guy that was 3-2. Pretty sure Agafonev left mma with something like a 5-4 records.

Both cans. Khabib has done really well in the UFC but I wouldn't use his Russian can crushing days as an example of how his grappling would do off the cage vs top UFC fighters.

Al was able to get up multiple times when Khabib didn't have him against the cage. Khabib relies heavily on the cage takedowns and to use the cage as a control point against his opponents. Besides the low single, Khabib lacks in open area takedowns. Usually the opponent defends the takedown and gets put against to the cage then chain wrestled.

It works though considering a huge part of this sport is based off the cage.

And then this can crusher crushed your favorite fighter and turned you and your favorite fighter into his side bitches.

Lol no. Not saying he still wouldn't be great, but his current style is extremely dependent on the cage

LOL, yes. Fighters that work from the clinch have just as much success in taking guys down in a ring as they do in a cage. It's actual harder to defend takedowns against the ropes and Khabib has such excellent balance and positioning that it would be even harder to stop the takedown. Khabib is a complete grappler and having the space of a ring to work with he would be even more effective with his top game. Also, a ring is a smaller surface than a cage. Khabib would be able to cut of the ring even better to force his game.

Why is anybody critical of Khabib automatically a Conor fan boy? I've been critical of Khabib before Conor was a FW contender, let alone fighting at LW. I remember the days of posters saying Khabib should just retire because he's so injury prone.

I've ragged on Conor plenty especially his recent shit but respect his FW title run. I've said whiskey leprechaun needs to get his shit together if he wants to compete at the top of LW.

You're just a Khabib nuthuggers who can't take anything critical about your man crush. You spend everyday on sherdog talking about Khabib constantly and your only comeback for anything is "oh he rekt Conor".

You pathetic dawg.

I think he relies a lot on the cage to chain wrestle people and take them down.
Moreover, stucking opponents against the cage prevent them from fighting off their back/Moving their hips etc.
Wouldn't be surprised if Tony couldn't be able to do anything off his back if he's stuck against the cage (even Ramos couldn't against Islam, if you can't move your hips, you are fucked…)
Current rules/fighting conditions favour wrestlers so much, whether it is the 5 min round or the octagon as a fighting area.

He chain wrestles more because his opponents use the cage to defend the takedown, in a ring it's tougher to do that so Khabib would guys down on the first shot. While you are correct that his opponents being stuck against the cage aren't as effective off their backs and moving. The counter is that Khabib is also limited in his movement with the cage on offense. He's an excellent grappler and having more space in a ring to work, he may even more effective on the ground.

But if Khabib fought in ice hockey. Could he win? Or would Steve Bosse fuck his world up?
