They made up a fake belt to justify a pair of gatekeepers headlining a MSG PPV. I don't know about the numbers, but the MSG events were special for all of two cards. Then we had the DC vs Lewis card and now this. Remember when Superbowl weekend cards were special too? Seems like the UFC can't keep a good thing going. They don't have any kind of yearly spectacle anymore.

Nate does have pretty good casual appeal for a gatekeeper. Not sure about Masvidal, though. I think he's a flavour of the week fighter right now like Mike Perry was before the Jouban fight, but this time the UFC aren't taking any chances.

did they release the khabib numbers? i heard some crazy russian claim about having more views then the most popular soccer match up of the year but what was the ppv numberS? after that i could probably gauge the guess better but also i think the midtime slot could help/hurt the numbers.
 
I'm curious to see if they won't bring in a title fight for that event, because it is a very weak main event.
 
PPV buys has plunged since ESPN+

nobody can sell more than 500k now except conor mcgregor.
 
Less than 500k in this ESPN era. But more than what other cards did except the DC - Stipe card which had Nate also. I think it will be close or a bit better than the Khabib card.
 
Under the old PPV system? Probably around 550-600k. Under the new ESPN system? Who the fuck knows. ESPN+ only has about 2 million subscribers and most didn't get it to watch UFC cards

We haven't been getting reports on the numbers since the change to ESPN+.

If this was the pre-ESPN+ days I would say around 700k

ESPN+ only has 2 million subscribers and like 1.5 million were from before the UFC deal (so not there for the UFC). If you think they are getting half of the ESPN+ subscribers to buy the card you are crazy. Even under the old deal its ridiculous to think Nate will pull GSP numbers

Internationally Khabib is, but Nate drives more traffic strictly in NA. Jones, however, only really has moved the needle with the DC rivalry. All of Diaz's numbers for the most part are stronger than Jones.
 
Hard to tell since ESPN is hot fucking garbage and is going to drop the numbers for every single PPV. If it were just a regular ppv id say it gets to the 500k mark. Who knows now though.

What the fuck? Jones last two fights did 700k buys WITHOUT DC (who is not a draw at all). That is better numbers then anyone not named Conor fighting today. He has also broken 500k like 8 times which is something only guys like GSP and Brock do. Saying he is not a needle mover is fucking stupid. There is nothing that indicates Nate is even close to Jones. Jones has way more Instagram followers, way more Facebook likes, way more Twitter followers, more youtube views. Its not even close

And Khabib is just way bigger everywhere. He has the single most talked about moment in MMA history and his fight with Conor did a million more buys then Nate's fight with Conor
 
right around 500. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less.

i remember watching diaz post fight vs mj and thinking man im glad im watching this at christmas dinner with my family and not streaming it on my cpu by myself

put it on actual ESPN
this is the perfect fight for mma to shed the ronda rousey and conner mcgregrer stigma

like oh yeah these people are really fucking badass i should watch this and not north carolina tech vs south florida west football
