I grew up iin the 80s, a golden age for boxing. There were wars back then. Holmes, Tyson, Duran, Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Barkley, Chavez, Pryor, Mancini, etc, etc. An awful lot of them were on live, broadcast tv too.
One of the greatest fights I ever saw in my life was the live broadcast of Pryor vs Arguello on HBO. Another of my fondest memories was watching Leonard vs Hearns 1 on closed circuit tv. Watching Leonard box early while Hearns looked for a KO then suddenly Hearns is hurt and they totally reverse roles. Good times.
Watching MMA guys look at the clock with 10 seconds left in a round and go for a takedown to impress the judges, not so much.

It wouldn't shock me. For one, we've just seen it too many times, fights end in unexpected ways.

I do think that people's dislike for Ian bleeds way over into their assessment of him as a fighter. As fans, hardcores or not, we're all susceptible to biases
