How intelligent was Charles Manson?

I find it kind of hard to tell with the rambles he went on. He was unhinged. He was a good manipulator and obviously charismatic to some degree but I don't have much reason to think he was a genius.

I never bought that he was a genius, or anywhere near that. Seems like a charismatic psychopath, with an average IQ to me.

Edit: though, given he was a career criminal, whose sole mission was basically to try and hustle marks, he likely had very high IQ in specific contexts. Things like ability to read a room, etc.

Kaczynski was a legit genius psychopath. Manson was probably just a low-level criminal, turned wannabe guru, who drank too much of his own Koolaid. I can only imagine what the IQ was, of the marks who fell for his gimmick, and got conned into doing his dirty work.

I haven't seen anything to make me think he was particularly special in that regard, but simply coning that many people and getting them to go along with his crazy ideas requires at least some degree of intelligence. So slightly smarter than average, but not highly intelligent or anything.

Edit - just googled it and he apparently had an IQ of 109, so just above average.
