His prime was before my day, I hear it was Fedor-esque at its peak...is that true?

he was a guy who won his fights purely on skill, he had next to no athletic ability.

Yes, after his outstanding performance against Chris Leben on TUF, where he was essentially a punching bag until he landed an elbow that cut Leben.
He was an unbelievable martial artist, I would never bet against a prime KenFlo.

he was technically excellent in almost every position, but just not good enough to beat the very best(although he had a lot of really good wins)

He had every tangible skill in the book, but not a single intangible. A marvelous guy to watch, but ultimately he was a skeleton without meat.

"The best there was, the best there is and the best there ever will be"
- Kenny Florian

He was a really good technical fighter who beat who he was supposed to beat and lost to who he was supposed to lose to. He was not great against really good wrestlers tho.

High level gatekeeper. Great technical fighter. Beat the shit out of Clay Guida which is really good.

Kenny Florini...

That's all he was known for, cutting people with his unathletic looking skin and bones-like physique. He used his skinny powers to drop on e weight class after another, making his elbows sharper and thus making him almost an actual threat.

There was a stretch where he looked unbeatable, til he ran into prime BJ @ LW. He rattled off five or six wins in a row and was beating some legit competition and he just looked.....different.....like he had really taken his craft up a notch. Then BJ fucked him up real bad.

But to answer your original question, he was a fighter that for a long period of time looked better every fight and it was real fun watching him develop.

A tough and legitimate contender but never had what it took to be champ. A step below guys like Mendes, Faber or Rory.

Weird thread, but anyway... he was damn good. Very skilled grappler and underrated standup. He also fought guys from MW down to FW, which is pretty outstanding.

Prime Ken Flo was a guy that if you're a top level fighter and you didn't take him lightly, you'd likely win.

I wish he still fought, he was only getting better.
