Media How Good was Sexyama?

You have my sympathy, bro. The blinders are on when you try sit down on something that is silly.
It's OK, you love your fighter.
bratha, saying akiyama is legit for beating both finalists of the PRIDE FC WW tournament is not silly at all. Just because rankings at that time did not recognize Pride FC, does not mean they are jack shit. Rankings are jack shit. Everybody knows this. Akiyama whooped both finalists of PRIDE FC WW tournament, that is hardcore. that is legitimate. that is history. that is fact. that is what the world is. Good day. High life.

Akiyama didnt beat Misaki. He actually got dropped with a left hook and KOed with a controversial knee.
Trigg and Acacio did beat Misaki fair and square yet they weren't unquestionably top10 because of it.
Santiago beat him twice.

Akiyama in his best run of his career was a slight favourite for his fight with Belcher, who was unranked at the time. And went to a controversial decision. It's what it is. Cut your delusions.

Yeah Okami was a total stud back then. Boring to casuals but I think he was ranked #3 or around there when he got cut after losing to Jacare. Akiyama looks really slick here - I like his double harai goshi attempts off an underhook that he lands twice on Wolfman. I think some of his endurance issues were from him treating it like a Judo match. It makes for an exciting fight, but when you're carrying a lot of muscle you can't keep exploding into attacks and big throws for 15 minutes without gassing out. You kind of have to play it like Yoel Romero coasting until it's time to explode with extreme prejudice. But it's probably hard for a guy who's been training Judo their whole life to change their pace.

Weirdo but legit sums up Dan the Wolfman lol. The man definitely has skills but his name dropping and self promotion was over the top. Josh Barnett calling him out on here back in the day was hilarious.

Yeah, Okami was #3 coming into his fight with Jacare, but the loss sent him out of the top5 although still top10 when he got cut.
He was certainly a stud with no glaring weaknesses in his prime, although I think the brutal upset loss to Boetsch messed with his confidence and ability to absorb damage.

I agree with your take on Akiyama's endurance issues. In that sense, he had lot in common with another top judoka in Lombard, who also carried lot of muscle and tended to explode in his attacks although he did try to coast in his fights, maybe too much actualy.

Didnt know the Josh Barnett story involving Wolfman. I can imagine he was mocked for his attitude in plenty of occasions lol

Judo is one of the most beautiful things to look at. This is what makes him so sexy. That and those cumgutter abs.

He also got subbed - on a high stage- by a half TV star/ half mmartist who was " maybe" relevant for a cup of coffee and that's only because of tuf.

I'm not saying Akyiama was some scrub .It's just my opinion that he wasn't top 10 WORLDWIDE material....hell no.

I remember absolutely in knee slap humor when they did a TV bit on the vitor - aky fight.
I was laughing so hard before fight cause I knew the outcome.I knew what was going to happen.

Its all good. I respect Akyiama as a fighter.

I wonder why UFC made such a crazy match up, let alone with Akiyama coming off losses to Leben and Bisping.

It seems Akiyama had a very high pay so maybe it was the last fight on his contract and UFC wanted him to sit on the table coming off a brutal loss? I can't find any other explanation.

Akiyama should've dropped to WW before anyways, surely since the loss to Leben althogh I dont know if there was anything stipulated in his contract in that regard

He should've, at least, tried from the start as far as ufc goes but who knows at that point. If it was a health issue and a road he didn't want to go down then respect.
I don't know.

Sexyama is beautiful but he ain't no Rich Franklin.

He was good in Japan; which is to say he couldn't hang in a legit fight promotion.

Imagine training MMA with Sexyama. It would be like training with a hot chick. Most men would not go hard at all and prefer grappling on the mat, which explains his Judo skills. He also was better from the bottom for the same reasons. And nobody would go hard against him in striking.
