He seems pretty underated on that board.

What is your opinion on that pioneer, sherbros ?

He did give us this

Did ok in the early Prides (knocked out Taktarov) but really should have retired a lot earlier, I believe he isn’t in good shape now after a lot of knock outs

Fought in the UFC so he's automatically better than Fedor

Did a bunch of posters recently buy the Pride 1-10 DVDS?

Almost daily is a retro thread.
Don’t get me wrong, I miss the good old days and always put my 2 cents in.

As you were! Don’t mind me

He genuinely killed Oleg Taktarov, who was a much better fighter than Gary on paper.

Gary was one of those guys who didn't like to train, but was so fucking strong that if he landed you were getting hurt. He was basically the original Ngannou, just a lot more raw.

I love Gary Goodridge, and he was a beast at times, but he wasn't overly motivated. He quit multiple times in fights. He has the only loss that I know of on Sherdog fight finder by Submission (No apparent reason).

One of the worst I've ever seen in my life. A combination of Bob Sapp and James Thompson. Yet Fedor fans pride themselves on his win over him, it's sad.

if you’re just going by wins and losses but fan favorites weren’t measured that way then
I mean, the thread asked 'How good was prime Gary Goodrige?' not 'How beloved was Gary Goodrige?' He coulda been a fan favorite but he wasn't a particularly good fighter

It was from exhaustion against Don Frye, all three of their fights are spectacular btw.

I'm a huge Goodridge mark, to me he was the ultimate bad ass at the time. He took on Fedor, Nog and Yvel on like a weeks notice I think. He was never afraid to mix it up with anyone but he had shit conditioning and he was very muscular so he gassed even in fights he won. Definitely a legend of the sport.

He put some pro wrestler in the hospital for a while after uppercutting him to the face a billion times. Did the same in the rematch too. Good old Pride, they were determined to kill someone in the ring.
