Won the HW belt after just 3 fights in the UFC?

How good was Brock Lesnar in his prime? If he had quit WWE and focused on MMA, how would he have done during his era? What is his ceiling? He was a powerful, strong man and had good wrestling skills, but he seemed to be afraid of getting hit at times. He's only lost to beasts such as Overeem, Frank Mir, and Cain Valesquez

He was obviously limited but very good
His sickness didn't help him much

Was he the greatest HW Ever? No, but he was far from a scrub as some like to pretend on here.

I know he pissed hot, but to come back after many years out and dominate hunt was a great achievement.

A great athlete/wrestler who happened to become a pretty good fighter. Who knows how good he would have been had he started many years earlier?

He definitely jumped right in the deep end and swam with the sharks

His trainers really taught him smart. They accentuated all his positives. They did great with what they had to work with and should be commended.

Obviously the guy is a physical marvel, incredible athlete and way faster than anyone that size has any right being.

Agreed.
I don't know if Randy Couture, Frank Mir, and Shane Carwin were in their prime when they fought Brock (didn't really follow the fights back then), but those are some impressive names for someone with very little fights in pro MMA

The Mir win at UFC was outstanding and imo he was bang on in his prime when Lesnar battered him and Shane was also Prime, he never went past a round at that point. The ref definitely did Brock a huge favour that night, many fights have been stopped for less, but he weathered the storm came out in the second and got the job done

I think he was a great fighter

What he did was done in such a short amount of time...

If he was just full on, balls deep into MMA for a decade straight, who knows how good he could've been.

He was like a ball of potential that just didn't get fully activated

Probably the toughest resume ever in terms of barely having any gimme fights and jumping straight in there with killers. Obviously a very talented wrestler, very good ground and pound and did a lot of damage. Just didn't like getting hit clean, it was kind of weird in that I don't think he had a bad chin, dude just tended to recoil from hard shots.

Probably the most athletic HW we've seen. Had a great double leg and not that much else but it worked well for him for a short while. Could have been the GOAT HW if a) he started younger b) was more committed to MMA than WWE and c) had the right coaching in place.

His knees in the clinch against Couture were awesome

Yes he had a solid chin (otherwise Carwin would have stiffened him), but I just don't think he had enough time striking to get used to taking shots

I can't imagine lesnar having to take many punches prior to training MMA and getting hit was new to him

He just didn't have enough time to get used to being hit hard. His trainers couldn't have hw boxers come in there and fuck him up,it'd destroy his confidence

Brock was so good that he tattooed a dick on his chest and nobody gave a damn

Very good.. he has limited MMA training but he managed to beat some very good fighters who have tons of experience.

Mark Hunt, Heath Herring, Randy Couture, Frank mir all had tons and tons of experience in MMA, even Carwin had a fair amount of experience. Even Kim Min Soo who Brock beat in his first MMA fight has lots of combat experience

Its a shame about the illness, because he was on a great run before the illness.

Another thing I loved about Brock were his fights were fun! he made the UFC HW division fun and entertaining. He always let go, he always went forward and went for it.. it made the fights fun, when he left UFC HW division got so lame and boring and no one even fights, like one fight every year for most of them.

Yeah Brock definitely was entertaining. He was one of those fighters where almost everyone tuned in to watch. He is one of the few fighters who had PPV numbers comparable to Conor

Anyone who volunteered to get locked in a cage fight with prime Velasquez, Couture, prime Carwin, Mir, Ubereem etc deserves only respect in my book.

I hung out with him at the SHOT show and he is also a very down to earth funny guy.

For getting into MMA very late he did incredible.
