How good was Alistair Overeem?

Ubereem vs prime Cain was one of the lost fights I'm most upset about. That was like a Crocop/Fedor level match.

Back in his Pride days, Overeem was probably the best LHW in the world for the first 4 minutes of each of his fights. Super juiced, uber-confident Ubereem was probably the best HW in the world for a few years.

Uberreem in MMA has become a bit of a mythical beast, we saw it so briefly that its easy to make up pretty much anything you want about how good/bad he might have been.

Personally I do think you see the same problems he had post PED busts in that stage of his career, massive hulking Reem was good at at neutralizing grappling but without the big K-1 gloves to hide behind he was just too hittable, Werdum landed a good deal on him and honestly Lesnar had the openings to.

He's also one of those fights who evolved sideways for me, early Reem was an exellent sub grappler, mid reem a clinch monster, late reem a good distance fighter but he was never all of those things combined. Also I think across all of the versions aggressive boxing was a weakness plus of course chin.

I've been saying for years that if Overeem had a really good chin, he would've been be the best ever.

His skills are top notch. It's his chin that always let him down. Skill-wise, he's one of the best to ever do it.

As far as Ubereem, scariest HW ever. Like Ngannou, but with a more well rounded arsenal. But, the tests don’t lie

@Yrat is this the only kinda of thread you can do braddah? Or is it a language barrier thing?

Overeem is absolutely one if not the greatest of all time in terms of skill, he just couldn't take punches as well as most others.
People seem to forget that Overeem won the K1-world grand prix.
Won pretty much every world title there was and would have won the UFC title too if he didn't get suspended. After peaking he reinvented himself and went on another tear, nobody has been around for as long as Overeem with the same level of success. His last match was against Volkov who's one of the top dogs and might even be the next champ

He fought roided out dudes that outweighed him by a bunch as a young skinny LHW. He wrecked his chin early. Later on he developed into a very skilled fighter. Then he got on the sauce and became Ubereem a mythical figure. Then USADA ruined it. He is a very skilled fighter whose androgen receptors are out of this world. Definitely a big part of MMA history.

Yes, there are really three Overeems. The skinny LHW version, Ubereem, and the current incarnation. Forget Ubereem, can't consider him (and even if you did, he never won the championship).

I consider Skinny reem to be the true reem, and probably was Gustaffson 1.0 a good, talented guy a bit short of champion.

He was the bigger guy against essentially every single one of his PRIDE opponents (Werdum and Kharivtonov being the exceptions).

"Skinny" Reem was bigger than Liddell, Lil Nog, Vitor, Igor, Shogun, and Arona. He just was.

"Skinny" Reem was fucking ripped out of his mind with HW height and weight.

Not to mention he got knocked out by a 250lb 29 year old Mike Bernardo when he was 18 in 1998.

Very fucking good. However, he had 2 glaring issues. Chin, and cockiness. His cockiness and overconfidence gave him the thought process that some guys just weren't meant to be in the ring with him. Against Bigfoot, Browne, etc. he had that mentality that the guy standing across from him was nothing more than a punching bag, and combined with his glass chin made for some devastating set back losses.

During pride he fought the wrong weight class so my question here below

- would overeem do better in hw if he fought in that division 2003-2005 in Pride and weighted around 102-105 kg?

This thread is about Reem's PRIDE career, which you responded directly towards, and now you've just brought up a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with PRIDE as your argument to respond to a post that specifically states a bunch of Reem's PRIDE fights... you literally just brought up one of Reem's amateur fights as your argument as to why he was small in PRIDE. Nobody gives a fuck about Reem's amateur fights lol

Ubereem is probably the best offensive heavyweight ever. His downfall has always been his defence/chin. His ability to defend punches is pretty bad considering his kickboxing credentials, and he gets himself knocked out brutally, time after time. Because of this, there are many guys that are/were better than him, simply because they had the defensive tools that Reem didn't. But yeah, from a pure offence standpoint, I can't really think of anyone better at HW.
