How good is Zhang Weili on the ground?

While all this is true Zhang is one of those fighters who really has improved each time out and I suspect her ground game may be pretty good from on top, & her TD defence may be better as she has always had the strength and just needed to understand technique and balance.

Also also... How does Cookie Monster perform off her back? She does not have the BJJ that Rose possesses and if Zhang gets a takedown or knockdown it might be interesting to see how Carla deals.

I think if the fighters decide to engage, we might see some very interesting scrambles and transitions. Carla without doubt has a sold ground game from the top, but I think all the rest of the stuff on the matt might be in question until we see it play out.
I serious doubt Zhang could keep Carla on her back lol. In fact Zhang trying to out wrestle Carla would just be a foolish game plan. Tatiana Suarez was able to dominate Carla but she literally is one of the best female wrestlers in the world.

I know she is strong, that's for sure. Check this out.

I’m going to help you out with getting more views on this since it’s actually quite impressive, when she picks up Francis and didn’t look the least bit uncomfortable with the weight. I’d guess it’s likely she could literally scoop him up take a few steps and and powerslam a 293 lb... man... jeebus, I knew she was a ball of muscle but didn’t realize that she had that type of power.

Thats how I look at it as well. I'm still confused as to how Carla Esparza became champion in 2022. Rose completely fucked up bad in that fight. How you are beating undefeated Joanna twice, undefeated Weili twice, Andrade in a brawl and then end up paralyzed in front of Carla Esparza? Well, we know the answer.

Either way, I'd be shocked if Weili loses this fight.
Well I definitely wouldn't be shocked. Rose had to completely abandon her striking and solely focus on tdd. Zhang's aggression is going to make it alot little easier for Carla to close the distance.

I doubt Francis is 293lbs and Weili didn't really pick him up. What she did with Francis' evident colaboration was:
Hip to shoulder, his bodyweight shifts over you, as long as you aren't weak enough that you collapse - boom you got a lift. Simple physics.

Right??!!! It's insane to think Esparza is 2-0 against Rose

*2-0

She should be 0-2 or at least 1-1 if Rose wasn't her own worst enemy. Rose has the size and skills to murder Carla witihin 2 rounds. The fact that she handed off her belt to a hobbit without even trying to fight is perplexing.

Carla's luck has run out though. Weili will destroy and retire her.

She isn't bad on the ground. She is a purple belt with some stripes. I don't think she doesn't train consistently in the gi because she moved her camp to Thailand. Her BJJ coach is still based out of China. That Thai gym is more striking and wrestling. Apparently they are pretty high on her. The wrestling coach said she came knowing how to wrestle already. She is taking 135-145ers down.

I think her issue is game planning and lack of skilled training partners. She only trains with men and she does well though. At Cejudo's gym she had quality female wrestlers but I think they are lacking in other facets of the game.

Rose is a monster. Beating Andrade is questionable though. She got pummeled and it should've been at least a draw. Andrade beat the piss out of her that fight.

Very clear 29-28 Rose.

The judge who scored it for Andrade gave her R1, which is absolutely laughable.

Stats are stats but you have to watch the fight. Rounds one and two were close. I gave Andrade round 2 because she landed the harder shots. Round 3 was 10-8 for Andrade. Rose was beat up, damaged and severely compromised.

Agree,… I’m just interested in seeing I’d Zhang has improved enough to mix it up on the ground.

Someone who can keep Joanna on the ground for half a round can most definitely keep Carla grounded for as long as she wants.

LOL at R3 being a 10-8 for Andrade. She landed a few good shots and broke Rose's nose. That's it. Andrade was never even close to finishing the fight. Not a single knockdown. One takedown she did absolutely nothing with (she let Rose back up after quickly realizing Rose was far more dangerous than her on the ground). Not to mention that Andrade needed the finish to win but barely threw anything in the last minute. She was completely gassed. That's a 10-8 according to you?

We can all agree that Carla is extremely mediocre, but that Joanna was 2-4 in her last 6 and hadn't fought in over 2 years, so it's hard to tell if that fight serves as measurement for anything.

In any case, I doubt Weili would even try to do that, but she's probably strong enough to prevent Carla from keeping her on the ground for long.

Rose was wobbly, got pieced up and got her face smashed in. Andrade landed some nice body shots as well. You think round 1 was 10-9 and round 3 should be scored the same?

Rose was woobled in you dreams. She has never been dropped with strikes. She can take a punch. Rose outlanded Andrade 31 to 18 in R1.

Do you think you might be a little biased when it comes to Rose?

You seem to be the only one who thinks that was a 10-8. Are you in love with Jessica?
