How good is JDM & Ian Garry's grappling & sub defense?

Both Jack Della Maddalena & Ian Garry are known for their great striking (boxing/kickboxing), but I honestly wonder how good is their ground game/grappling... especially submission defense?

If Shavkat catch them in guillotine, rear naked or triangle choke, will they defend it well?

Garry is training with Demian Maia every day. I think he'll be fine. Not sure about Giacomo Della Maddalena.

Garry looked good from what I have seen and JDM did well vs Burns but I do remember JDM having a very close fight with Bassil Hafez. I even thought Hafez did enough to almost edge it, so might run into problems with other Wrestlers with strong cardio.

Hafez is much better than people give him credit for, and JDM was kinda being an idiot in that fight looking for subs that weren't there, he looked much more refined in the Burns fight so seemed to have learnt a lot from that performance.

JDM survived & escaped multiple ground exchanges with Burns in his most recent fight. I'd say he's much more proven than Garry who hasn't faced anyone near Burns level, regardless of who he's training with.

JDM is much more competent in grappling than Ian Garry from what I've seen. He's face much more high level grapplers as well. Ian Garry's grappling looked entry level vs MVP, who happens to have terrible grappling himself. His best defence has been fence clinch work and using his height and reach to keep distance and avoid it entirely.
If things finally click for Garry and comes in with improved grappling than I'd be happy for him because it's been a huge hole in his game so far.

He went to the ground with MVP..Nuff said

Honestly sub defense is pretty high in UFC at this point, unless you're top notch BJJ guys, chances are you aren't getting subbed while on top. Garry in Brazil probably won't have issues no matter what happens, JDM will keep it standing or stay in the right positions to avoid the sub. With Burns getting old, there isn't much of a BJJ threat in the division.

I mean it is not like Welterweight is the division with the best grapplers but I think if he wants to beat Shavkat or Belal he needs to be able to keep it standing.

I agree Hafez did fight a very good fight but I wouldn't call him championship level.

Apropos of little, but Garry has talked openly about Luque clowning him on the mats and submitting him during grappling sessions at Kill Cliff before. I know, training's training but it's just one data point to throw out there.

JDM... it's been a mixed bag. Emeev and Burns put him in some tough spots on the ground, but to his credit he narrowly survived and finished both guys. I'd love to see him get some more dedicated time training with Craig Jones.

He was also losing that fight though and couldn't stop the takedowns. His sub defense is solid but you need more than that against Belal.

Both have pretty good bjj and sub defense. I would worry about their chances against a guy like Brady whose game plan would probably be to blanket them for 3 rounds.
