Nate ducked Khabib, Pettis ducked Khabib, Alvarez ducked Khabib, Oliveira was nowhere near Khabibs rank to get the fight, Ferguson fight was cursed, Kevin Lee wasn't close enough to Khabibs rank, LMFAO @ Cowboy, Felder wasn't close enough to Khabib's rank, LMFAO @ Masvidal and again not close enough to Khabib's rank. Also Khabib beats every single one of those guys.

Some more "if"s I see, sprinkled with a ton of "would've"s and a dash of "could've".

This is a well thought out, non-hyperbolic answer. Most ppl will be using terms like “destroy” or “make it look easy”. But the reality is, who knows. IMO it would be super lop sided, either way.

Hughes is very short. I think the reason most "modern" fighters have an edge over the guys of 2000-2010 is the absurd amount of weight cutting. Guys like Khabib would absolutely dwarf someone like Hughes or Penn. If we compare these guys with nowadays fighters, we should compare them with FWs.

Hughes is billed as 5'9" which looks to be pretty accurate considering he was the same height as BJ and not much shorter than GSP. He was probably one of the bigger WW's in the division at the time, he was a tank of a man.

He might be stronger than Khabib too. I still think Khabib is more complete, and I still give him the edge, but thinking it would be easy is crazy. Khabib's game is to bully someone into the cage and pummel him there, but it wouldn't be easy with Prime Hughes.

The sole reason Khabib fought Horcher was due to Ferguson pulling out..

Your entire argument is on the basis that Khabib should have fought Lee, Diaz and co, despite the fact that they either couldn't beat contenders in order to gain a title shot, went up a weight class or outright moved organisation (Alvarez).

Khabib is 32 and close to his prime. Hughes is 47 and has been retired for years. Very easy win for Khabib.

If Matt gets mount, which he often did against bigger fighters than Khabib, then Khabib won't get up. But if Khabib gets mount he needs a sub, otherwise Matt is too strong to control, he'll get up.

Penn is smaller than Khabib, but with different tools. He beat Matt with that diving punch. The sub was a result from hurting Matt with the punch. Khabib doesn't punch as hard as Penn, BJ had legit KO power and was a skilled striker. Khabib has neither. He'd have to get the sub, and he can, but he's not controlling Matt.

So I see Hughes being the wrestling aggressor and Khabib, as the less physical guy, would need to scramble a lot to get out of danger. Win the endurance battle and eventually catch Matt with a sub.
