The towel itself weighs about 2 lbs.

If Daniel was a holding an object that weighs 2 lbs how would that make him lighter?

Step on a scale and push down something you are holding... Your weight will stay the same

Complex quantum equations you probably wouldn't understand, while simultaneously playing multidimensional chess with outer dimensional entities you cannot see.

Two dudes on either side of towel held it "taught" so he was able to get the slightest lift off the scale

Other people were holding the towel acting as an anchor so DC could push down on it. Watch the video, its obvious.

He wasn't actually holding it up, he was pushing it down.

He's leaning on the towel held by the two guys. so whatever weight he can offset to the towel will no longer affect the scale. You can also clearly see the fat guy on the right (UFC Staff?) clenching pretty hard to keep the towel up.

DC is a bitch for cheating, especially after all his Jon Jones bullshit, Rumble by TKO...

Also if you have a mini scale, try this. using the gun fingers gesture, place it on the scale and check the weight. Now have someone hold a STRING and have one of your fingers representing the barrel of a gun (index/middle) leaning on the string.

Cheating one pound off the scale is nothing compared to what Jon Jones has done

The regulators are clearly at fault here, DC still had 1hour and 58 minutes to lose the 1.2 pounds the right way and they should have regulated that better

If you have a scale at home you can test it and see it doesn't take much to drop the weight on the scale. Try resting your finger on the towel rack or counter while on the scale and see what happens.

Stand on your bathroom scale and observe your weight. Now grab the towel rack while standing on the scale and watch in amazement as your weight has suddenly dropped.

This level of stupidity is what makes Sherdog such a goldmine of comedy. How could you not love this place?

he was resting his arms on the towel. And they were holding the towel up. So the weight of his arms were lighter than normal.

Btw, those were UFC guys holding the towel and they were all in on this. They were all excited and jumping for joy that their plan worked.

To answer your question.

A scale just measures the net force that is being applied to it. Ideally, the only force acting on it should be the force due to gravity.

However, if you push down on an object that is not located on the scale then that object "pushes back" with an equal force in the opposite direction. Thus, the net force going downward toward the scale decreases.

Alternatively, you can just think of it as the towel "carrying" part of your weight.
