On monday I'll finally have access to a gym and will be starting the Starting Strength program. Hoping to bulk up more because I'm still pretty skinny. 170lbs, 6'2"

I was considering doing the GOMAD diet because it'll definitely give me results of weight gain but it's impractical for me for a few reasons: 1) I absolutely don't have the fridge space for 7 gallons of milk a week, having roommates and whatnot. 2) I'm trying to bulk a bit more clean than the amount of fat people tend to gain on GOMAD. 3) I doubt that I can afford a gallon of milk a day being a broke college grad. 4) I've got concerns about acne because I have to try very hard to keep my skin clear - it is for now but I've heard GOMAD is hard on this with the test boost you get.

BUT, as long as I eat clean, drink half a gallon of whole milk a day, lift heaving weights, etc, I should still see results as I'll still be adding like 1300 kcal to my diet and that should create surplus probably of like 1000kcal I think.

I mean, you don't really need more of a surplus than that, right? Obv i'll be using vitamins/protein supps for PWO, fish oil, etc and trying to eat as clean as a broke guy can. Thoughts?

Cliffs:
1) GOMAD isn't really feasible, but can pull off half-GOMAD
2) Will be doing starting strength, supplementing, eating as clean as i can
3) Wondering about how much of a caloric surplus I need to make steady gains
4) Will it be beneficial for me to do half-GOMAD

Thanks in advance guys! I'll be doing some sort of bulk either way so i'll try to do before/after pics for you guys and keep a log, in the name of science! ha

The ratio of muscle to fat will stay the same, and your progress will be slower.
GOMAD is a good program, .5 GOMAD is fine too in my opinion It's much more manageable for someone my weight (145 lbs).

I did this and achieved good results. Put on about 20 pounds in 3 months. I was the same height and weight as you. You will put on a bit of fat obviously but after stopping and eating clean for a while the fat will just fall off.

Lol, I pictured fat literally falling off. That's disgusting

It's a cheap way to add a quality 64 grams of protein to your diet and 1300 calories. I don't see how it couldn't help. You may, however, find that it makes eating the rest of your calories more difficult. Just something to keep in mind. The fat in the milk is going to make you feel fuller longer, so you may have to force yourself to get the rest of your calories in.

You shouldn't really do GOMAD or any variation unless you absolutely can't gain weight by just eating more food.

GOMAD is a last resort. Drink a lot of milk but don't try to force it.

This was sort of my plan. I have tried to bulk before, a few years back when I had to take a lifting class in college, and I felt a bit stronger at the end but weighed the same even though I tried eating bigger. I'm not doing it like last-resort wise, just more of a "if I add a half gallon of whole milk a day it should make sure that I'm getting that surplus" sort of way. And I dont have the discipline to eat 1300 extra calories of clean food haha. But yea, half gallon sort of goal but really i'm just going to try to drink a lot of milk and see what happens

Then don't. Eat a pizza, big steak or hamburger or whatever, combine business with pleasure.

What the hell is clean food anyway? There's almost no food that is downright bad for you that is actually available to buy.

yeap, unless you're in this mad rage to gain strength and mass, there shouldn't be any issue.

You see there's the first problem. GOMAD diet should be based on freshly farmed milk which only lasts for two days in the fridge. So you should buy it daily.

Dirty bulking and GOMAD will lead to insulin resistance over time.

Eat healthy.

I was asking my crossfit coach about diets to put on mass and the GOMAD was one he mentioned. I'm 6'2 and weigh 157 and am very weak as far as strength goes. I'm thinking about trying it for a month or so just to see how it feels/goes.

6'2" 157? Yeah, I guess GOMAD is an option. However, It's important to realize that you can gain weight by simply eating more calories than you expend, and you don't have to resort to drastically overeating like most people on GOMAD do. A simple 500 calorie per day surplus works just as well.

Orly? Do tell.

Rice Pasta Milk and Red Meat helped my brother gain well. these are the main things hed eat along with veges. he also ate about 6 meals a day

I'm going to fanatically start tracking everything I eat and drink to make sure I'm hitting a minimum calorie figure. My problem is that I'm not naturally not a big eater, so even with GOMAD, I need to make sure I'm taking in enough, especially on days I do crossfit.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I use myfitnesspal to log my calories, and I use a food scale constantly. I highly recommend both.

especially on days I do crossfit.

I hope you're not using CrossFit as your strength and conditioning regimen for BJJ. My girlfriend loves it, but it has a high injury rate, and you'd be better served training for strength if your sport is BJJ. The FAQ in S&C explains it a lot better than I could.
