How does Armenia produce so many good/elite fighters?

In both cases I think its a combination of both a strong martial arts culture and not many ways to earn money from it besides MMA.

My guess would be even in Russia white slavic guys have an easier time getting state funding than they do in Dagestan for things like wrestling and judo.
In my opinion if we look at ethnic backgrounds of Russian mma fighters probably first places would be Russians, Ukrainians and Armenians. Dagestani is not an ethnicity, it’s like 20 ethnicity who considered native If someone wants to mention them.

Also I don’t think I saw any Armenian mma fighters from Russia saying anything about poverty or coming from poor families.

They hardly produced any of those fighters, they're mostly prospects of American, Dutch, Russian and Brazilian gyms.

So when fighters like Mokaev, Chimaev, Abus etc fight, they are "Dagestani and Chechen warriors" but when it's Armenians it's "They never lived in Armenia they are not Armenian".

Armenia is right smack in the middle of a region known for producing excellent wrestlers (Dagestan, Chechnya, turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran, Georgia) etc etc these countries/regions regularly do well in international wrestling
All those countries could make a case for inventing the uni-brow

A nation full of people that have had to defend themselves constantly from conquerors breeds toughness.

For comparison, Dagestan has a population of 3.2 million and Armenia 2.7 million.

Look at the list of some Armenian fighters, the pound for pound best country in the world at producing fighters?

Gegard Mousasi
Karo Parisyan
Arman Tsarukyan
Edmen Shahbazyan
Eduard Vartanyan
Armen Petrosyan
Manvel Gamburyan
Daniel Sarafian
Marat Grigorian
Giorgio Petrosyan (105-3 kickboxing record)

They're not all elite fighters obviously, but for a small population, pretty damn impressive.
Because Armenia is no stranger to conflict. Constant aggression by Turks and Azeri’s and such.

We georgians are 3 million and we have ilia topuria (fights for belt) ranked #5 FW
merab dvalishvili (he would be champ long ago if he wanted to) ranked 2# BW
giga chikadze elite kickboxer 8-1 in ufc ranked #8 FW
Roman dolidze best grappler in mw divison with nasty power in his hands ranked #8 MW
Guram kutateladze (had bad luck in last fight) future LW top 10 eat least
You have the best food too!

They take wrestling and martial arts seriously, why wouldn't they be good at MMA?

Wrestling based sports and kickboxing are reasonably popular in that region of the world.

Sarafian is Brazilian, with Armenian heritage.

Same with a lot of those guys being Russian. Mousasi is Dutch etc.

Never understood this mindset. It's like claiming Machida is Japanese or Bisping is Polish. Makes no sense.
It still makes sense to ask. Machida is a martial artist because of his Japanese heritage, I mean his dad is a prominent sensei. Fact is a lot of guys with Armenian roots end up in mma. There is 100% a cultural component to it. You don't need to live in Japan or Brazil to have Japanese influence if your parents are freaking Japanese and Brazilian natives. I do not have Armenian roots so I am interested to know why they are represented so well for a small nationality.

Mousasi is literaly Armenian. In Europe and around it cultures are original. It´s not America, you´re born there and that´s what you are. It´s your language , your whole famiy, culture, blood. That is if Moose agrees. I think he does. Or he considers himself Dutch Armenian or Armenian from Holland. In Germany noone claims to be German who isn´t ethnically Germans. It takes like 100 years to become a nationality, so a few generations. In most cases.

My expirience. You might not understand it.

I am European lol. Ethnicity is not Nationality. Ironically you have the weird American mindset. Where people who have great great grandparents from Ireland or Italy call themselves that instead of American.

Europeans don't think like this. You have been colonised lol.

You can "identify" genderqueer squirrel s whatever this days. Mousassi is a Iranian-born Dutch. He might legitimatly ethnically as Armenian (which can mean a lot of different things), but when the question is, literally "How does Armenia produce so many good/elite fighters?" Well, in the case of Moussasi Armenia didn't contribute a thing.
