This question has been plaguing my mind for weeks, does anybody here know?

Yes, they can by sign language. My uncle used to work with deaf-blind people and they would place their hands on the other and signed.

With telepathy

how the hell did helen keller communicate with anybody, let alone write 12 published books?

with speak and spells and flash cards, but in an actual advance manner.

Or

I have no idea.

Sorcery.

But blind people talking to deaf people have nothing on this deaf dumb and blind kid. His name is Tommy and he's a pinball wizard.

Helen Keller said, "muaaagghh, muuaaaaaaggggghhhh, muaaaaaaaaaggggggghhhhh!" Then her ghost writer wrote, "It was a dark and stormy night."

Deaf guy learns braille. Blind man communicates as always.

... not sure how quickly braille can be written in terms of a conversation but that's my first guess.

maybe sign is better, quicker. Probably that.
