It’s just completely baffling to me how a guy can walk through fire with Yoel Romero of all people, and then look like a deer in headlights and get me too’d by Tittysanya, then get outgrinded by Marvin Vetori?

Just really weird, I can understand losing or getting caught, but he just stood there and got picked on like a nerd vs the school bully?

Romero is not a gauge for anyones skill level, Yoel is inconsistent, inactive, unintelligent and has suspect cardio hence all the taunting, low output and lack of wrestling. I think Yoel got lucky to win so many fights he was behind in by 3rd round knockouts, its clear the guy is skilled but should have lost to Jacare. In Yoels best nights he can beat lots of the division, in his bad nights he can look outclassed by guys like Ronny Markes.

Costa never beat a single good MW besides a 41 year old Romero and it was a back and forth war where both men gassed early. Going into the Izzy fight, some 11-0 prospect with 1 legitimate win vs a 41 year old...Well, we didn't really know if he was legit or not based off the Yoel fight alone, I think since that fight we found out hes not. The MW division is shallow and besides Izzy and Rob its about 500% worse than the former Generation when we had a stable of guys not yet decrepit in the top 10.

For my money, I think Paulo Costa was rushed too quickly by the match-makers. Look at his strength of schedule leading into the Adesanays fight; a couple of low-mid tier MWs, the most inconsistent fighter in UFC history, a blown up WW who was CLEARLY past his prime, and then Yoel. Personally, I disagree that Yoel wasn't a legit win, but Paulo won that fight in a war which many thought he should've lost. He was NOT ready for Adesanya, but I think the UFC didn't want to pass up on the chance of making him a star. Plus, he built up the fight a lot of plenty of trash-talk.

Now, if I put my Sigmund Freud hat on, I think the humiliating loss to Adesanya did a bad number on his confidence, and that showed with his poor preparation leading into the Vettori fight. If I were his coach and/or manager, I would try to get Costa to A.) move up to 205lbs for good, and B.) take a few fights against lower-tier competition before fighting top contenders. I think he still has a lot of potential, but he needs some more experience.

What a dumb thread idea, Costa beat yoel because yoel is easier to beat. if yoel doesn't finish you he'll stand around and throw 10 strikes per round unless you really draw him into a fire fight.
