Usually when guys pick up the sport at 22-23 years old, they don't become as good at any part of the game as specialists. They end up becoming well rounded fighters that are about equally good at everything.

Reyes' striking though is incredible. The way he gets angles, doesn't miss opportunities, and just slips in and out with beautiful counters looks like he's been doing it for a lifetime. It's up there with guys that had very successful separate careers in kickboxing or boxing like Adesanya and Wonder Boy. Does Reyes have any kind of martial arts background?

by training

Jones' is just massively overrated, when he's not juiced to the gils, and made a fighter who squeaked an undeserved decision over Volkan look like a world beater.

so how come no one has ever beaten him?

Cos he has been juicing for most of his career, and when he hasn't against Reyes, Santos and OSP he hasn't looked like 'GOAT' material, with loads of people thinking he actually lost his last two fights when he has been subject to higher levels of scrutiny regarding testing. Make of that what you will.

18-23 is actually a great time to pick up striking. Besides that, talent and hard work. Some guys are simply naturals.

He’s obviously a naturally talented striker. Could see that in his first fight.

I think he had one of those half rubber men stands in the garage.

Jones's striking has always been problematic when people get in his face. This is very rare, of course, but it has consistently been the case. It highlights that he is not a natural boxer [as does his piss-poor punching technique from distance]. Reyes got busy, as Gustaffson did all those years ago, and Jon struggled to deal with it.

Jones legit looks like a lost puppy when he's not allowed to fight with his hands open fingers pointed at people's eyes

Training but also talent.
I guarantee you that Reyes has phenomenal hand-eye coordination - something which is needed in most ball sports.

EDIT: I mean that Reyes probably has naturally a good hand-eye-coordination already.

When you teach a better athlete to fight, it looks better because it is.

QFT.

Jones main asset in striking has been his unpredictability and mixing in his wrestling.

He’s never been the type to dominate a fight with the jab or any other fundamentals.
