How come Khabib never got finished by average fighters like Matt Serra in his prime?

And Serra was on his knees quitting against GSP in the rematch. Waiting for the Ref to stop the fight. Maybe you didn't see it..

Here is a start.

He never fought Khabib. So he has NOT personal reference on him whatsoever..

Old School game LOL!!!. Oh please elaborate on that one?
Double legs from halfway across the cage. Doesn't chain his td's. His grappling leagues below Khabib. Not active on the ground.

That shit may have worked against OG's but Khabib is on another level.

LOL great alt account thread. 13 pages long

ok you wanna go there lets do it. In 2007, Georges was 25 and in his absolute prime. He got bodybagged by a journeyman lw to lose his belt. Then he went on to decision one of the WORST title contenders of ALL time in Josh 0-6 all ko's Koscheck and then he struggled and got a lucky armbar on an almost 40 year old Matt Hughes. Thats not exactly a 2005 Shogun level run.
Wait you're mocking Koscheck when Khabib won the title beating an irrelevant Al Iaquinta? A fringe top 10 fighter then, that hadn't fought in a year, was the 4th or 5th option as a realistic replacement.
Darrell Horcher
Michael Johnson
Edson Barnoza
That was Khabib's run to the title after a lengthy absence.

You need a fight pass account..
And a list of fights.
Lots of work to be done..
I hope you do it..

That gif has been posted in here several times because it's one of the only non double leg takedowns gifs I've seen of GSP posted.

Khabib showed signifcantly more diverse takedowns in the Trujillo fight alone than GSP has in his entire career. Let that sink in.

Welcome to a higher level.

Clinch to a single leg..

Sure buddy.

I actually love Serra as a personality in the sport far more than I did as a fighter. Dude is hilarious.

He thinks Khabib is the GOAT by the way.

He should know he ran GSP over.
How did the rematch go? I missed it.

@hbombfromhell may not know that most of what Khabib does in the cage, came from GSP although with a few wrinkles developed from his Father. The step in high crotch take down for example is a GSP move. He may not have invented it, but he made it very popular

Now here's Khabib doing it to Conor

Now, here's the wrinkle Khabib added to it: The foot steep after stepping in while Al has the defensive knee shield. Trips the outside leg.

I don't see this whole point of insulting GSP, really. They will tell you they studed and took from him. Why insult a legend? Oh well.

Massively disagree with this. GSP had some influence on Khabib being someone he looked up to, but most of what Khabib does in the cage comes from being two time sambo champion and judoka schooled from youth by Abdulnap, with some AKA Cain Velasquez mixed in as well.

This is only talking about takedowns as well.

Once it gets to the ground Khabib kills him.

Khabib has only fought 5 opponents that are worth mentioning, it's almost as if his record is padded...?

hes kind of like the joe calzaghe of mma. Never had to prove it against the best guys consistently and retired undefeated.

With all due respect, you're being willfilly ignorant. The man is a teacher. Abdulmanap watches hours of tape. He does film study. He studies what works and what doesn't work in teh cage and adds is own wrinkle to these. They were big gsp fans growing up. You mean to tell me they watch gsp and learned nothing? That would imply they're terrible students of martial arts.

That move you can only learn from cage fighting. Khabib wasn't a cage fighter prior to UFC. That's something his father studied. Don't be naive.

Still disagree.

When Khabib came to the UFC he was raw as hell and looked nothing like GSP.

I hate to keep referencing this video but look at Khabib's sheer diversity. Moves GSP never has never dreamed of. Literally a bigger array of TD's than GSP has done in his whole career in one fight from his Sambo/Judo background.

It was his time at AKA where he learned how use the cage so effectively a la Cain Velasquez. Mendez even calls out to him during fights, "do Cain Velasquez style!".

I understand Khabib and his father looked up to GSP, but you are greatly over estimating how that molded him as a fighter.

I'll concede he didn't take most but he took everything from GSP, but he took some and they will probably be the first to admit that. They're students of the game. They're not bozos who don't go in with no film study. I'm fine with saying Khabib is the better grappler and has a larger array of moves, but I don't understand the purpose of this thread or the argument when the fighter has taken bits and pieces from their game.

I'm willing to bet those AKA guys studied GSP. He's killed their gym. They're 0-3 against GSP. They know what he's good at. I'm sure they've taught his moves too.

who talked about serra ? LMAO, u said khabib is facing much smaller competition, I disagree and ask you to show pics, u showed NONE. btw that wasn't a cherry picked angle, that's the best angle possible to compare them, both in from of the camera at a 180 angle.

here some others if u want , Khabib being 3 times the size of his opponent always

Great effort on your part but here is the original post:
"How come Khabib never got finished by average fighters like Matt Serra in his prime?"

Answer: because Serra is way too big and Khabib would never set foot in the octagon with him.

Matt Serra was a LW bro.

GSP tapped to strikes against a former LW.

Let that sink in.

Look, I don't think you are understanding the point I'm making so I will type slower.... GSP fought a giant in Serra. Serra was fucking HUGE! Serra was a BEAST and that's why Khabib wouldn't get KO'd by Serra because he would never set foot with a 170lb MONSTER like HIM.

That's why Khabib nearly dies cutting weight, to avoid guys like Serra. At least GSP had the BALLS to face him.

Completely different era.
GSP improved throughout his UFC career whereas Khabib was moreso the finished product when he first fought with the company.

GSP was a classic striker though, Khabib not so much.
You just said khabib didnt improve during his time in the UFC. Think about that for a sec but don't hurt yourself

Sorry, but IMO Khabib lost to Roidzilla Tibau. Gleison landed more strikes, stuffed all of Khabib's take downs and took Khabib down once.

Khabib won that fight in the judges eyes on octagon control and aggression alone.

So how come Khabib wasn't able to take down past his prime Gleison Tibau but he's gonna take GSP down? Hahaha.

Also, imagine if Khabib fought GSP that night instead of Gleison.

See how that works?
