Read before posting: Reem/Werdum/DC were all around in SF when Fedor was in his prime.

He fought Werdum and got beaten. These fighters are some of the top tier heavyweights that were around when Fedor was in his prime and he has beaten none of them.

It is like saying Johnny Hendrix is the GOAT yet he never beat GSP. Fedor is one of the top 10 heavyweights of all time just but he is not the heavyweight GOAT or the Goat.

Andersons first recent loss to weidman happened when he was 38. Fighters are not in their prime at 38.Fedors loss to Werdum/Henderson came when he was 32-34. If Anderson lost three in a Row at 32 years old he could not be the GOAT.

Fedor is a good fighter but to say he is the greatest fighter in the history of MMA is insane. He got beaten up by a 185er when he was in his early 30s. It is like Anderson getting beaten by Sean Sherk at when he is age 34 and then he claims to be the greatest of all time.

Fedor is good but he is not the greatest fighter of all time.

It was different era....should he fight until 70 to be a goat? There is always new names

The same way Jordan is without ever beating Lebron

Two Yellows don't make a right!

Oh, a new thread on sherdog... except that it has been done to death already...

Almost all of those guys are from the era after his. He beat 5 UFC heavyweight champions, judo olympic medalists, K1 champions, etc. Fedor was the best fighter in his era - the PRIDE days.. and was undefeated for a decade.

Your argument is like saying Anderson isn't the GOAT because he didn't beat Weidman, Jacare, Rockhold and other guys who are on top NOW, instead of who was on top when he was actually active in his prime

You should go study some fights, son, and actually watch them, instead of just looking at people's records and determining how good they are by that. By the time guys like JDS, DC, Cain etc were on the scene, Fedor's prime was already near the end, and those guys were just starting. Overeem was a journeyman LHW in Fedor's prime, Werdum was not even top 10 in PRIDE.

Jesus is it always like this after Fedor fights?

Good thing about this thread so far is @Akabignasty's AV.

The same way Jordan is without ever beating Lebron
Jordan always played agaisnt the best. Lebron always plays against the best.
Fedor occasionally fought against the best.

So it's not the same way at all.

Twice a day , every day for the last 4 yrs. lol

You're judging his career by the tail end of it, when he already had 15+ years combat sports wear and tear on his body. It's like saying Ali was no good because Larry Holmes, Spinks etc beat him. It's like saying Joe Louis sucked because Marciano knocked him out.

What counts is how a fighter does in the prime of their career. Fedor is almost 40 years old, and by the time those gys were significant in rankings. he was over 35 and had already dominated the entire HW divison for 10 years.

BTW, since you were not around back then. Minotauro Nogueira was universally regarded as the #1 fighter in the world when Fedor beat him. How Nog looked in the last few years of his career don't count against his prime when Fedor beat him, he was an unbeatable machine in his day when Fedor mauled him. CroCop, too, other than one fluke loss to Randleman, was considered an absolute god in his day. You think these guys are no good because they were so-so in the latter half of their career, but you're wrong.

What matters most is the perception of and rankings of these fighters when they actually fought. Not what happened when they were over theh ill and faced young guys (IE JDS vs CroCop, etc)

Fedor dominated an amazing era of MMA and did not even come close to losing for 10 years, save one or two moments. He did all of that while being a natural middleweight and he beat people at their own games - Nogueira on the ground, Crocop on the feet, etc.

Fedor beat basically EVERYONE who was around in his day.. and when Fedor was on top in PRIDE, Arlovski and Sylvia were the #1 and 2 guys in the UFC. Well, Fedor smashed them too, like jokes.

Fedor dominated his entire era, you cannot whine that he did not fight guys from the era after his,

He beat Big Nog and Cro Cop in their primes.

He beat Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia.

He beat Brett Rogers right after Rogers just knocked out Arlovski and was undefeated.

He beat Hunt when Hunt was faster, stronger and had a better chin.

He tried to fight Barnett but Josh failed his test for PEDS.

He beat everyone and started to decline before JDS and Cain became top 5 fighters.

Fedor is the HW GOAT. Ask any fighter

I don't think DC has fought anyone else on your list himself. How can you have to fight him to be the GOAT?

Thank any of the names you listed off, and put Fedor on, and no one's beaten everyone on the list.

The GOAT debate is about who's the best fighter in their prime. Not neccessarily against who they've beaten, but their effective striking, grappling, aggression, toughness, and overall fight IQ.

Fedor, in his prime, is the GOAT HW. Period.

Stupid thread. Is GSP not the welterweight GOAT since he hasn't beaten Lawler, who was around while he was active? Of course not. Late career surges by longtime mid tier fighters (Lawler, Werdum, RDA) don't suddenly call into question the dominance of champions of old.
