How Bitter Are the Gracies?

The Gracies have made Brazilian Ju-Jitsu a required skill (to some level) for every MMA fighter. That is a legacy which will never be denied or taken away.

As a fighting family, of course they are never going to dominate like in the early days of MMA. There is too much talent around for one family to have much of a say.

There is much BJJ knowledge worldwide now.

Shouldn’t be bitter at all, you can’t bring up early UFC without mentioning Rorion and Royce. Sure they don’t profit, but I assume Rorian’s shares were sold.

Meanwhile in reality Roger Gracie and Kron Gracie became BJJ legends, Rener and Ryron's prodigy became a UFC title challenger, and Neiman Gracie is an elite MMA fighter.

Gracies are doing just fine.
They have never come close to a UFC belt in how long? Over 15 years? They can't even get a Belltor belt. Past his prime Rory who couldn't cut it in the UFC beat Nieman.

I'd say, right now, Khabib's Dagestanian mix of combat-Sambo, judo, and wrestling is the most perfect "style" right now today. However, Khabib is also a specimen for this style, and not everyone can implement it.

On that subject I do wonder actually whether guys like Sakuraba might not have been getting more from Sambo than they let on? the story at the time was than they were picking up their skills from catch wrestlers like Billy Robinson but I wonder if there might not have been a bit of marketing in that? really standard catch wrestling wasnt much of a competitive sport at that point were as Sambo was.

Pride were quite cunning the way they slowly lured the Gracies back just when you sense they were backing off from MMA to keep their "legend" intact.
