Am I the only one that thinks this dude is huge for the 135lbs division, he looked huge next to Petr Yan and it showed on the ground.

He is 5´7´´ or 5´8´´ and I know there are some other dudes tallers in that division like Cory Sandhagen or Sean O´malley but they look pretty skinny next to Aljo, this dude looks huge I´m surprised he can even make 135lbs

They both make weight.

PS "weight bully" and similar sentiments is the dumbest trend on sherdog in years. And that's saying something. Calling for changes to "systemic massive weight cuts" is not dumb; calling out individual fighters for doing what everyone does (and/or for failing the "look" test) is dumb. Beyond dumb. Excessively dumb. Mind-numbingly dumb. Embarrassingly dumb.

He does look pretty big for the division, and he could probably fight at 145lbs and be alright. He’s champ at BW, like him or not, but I think his cardio problems will likely be a resolved if he moves up.

Nothing special compared to the rest of the division, makes weight and does not look like death doing it, fair game, and imho, as long as someone actually makes weight well, fair game either way, the sport is heavily influenced by weight cutting practices, everyone is doing it to the point of being kind of pointless imo.

Good size for his weight class.
There are two 5'11 guys in his division though, so he's fine

Aljo's one of the bigger Bantamweights but I don't think he's huge, I think he'd be on the smaller side vs Featherweights like Ilia, Ortega, Korean Zombie, Kattar, Emmett, Holloway etc. He wasn't THAT much bigger than Petr Yan and Umar Nurmagomedov is every bit as big as Aljo.

In case anyone cares.

Sterling hasn't fought in California since they started publishing fight night weights. So we DON'T know how much he gains between weigh-in and fight time.

Back when I tracked these things (pre-COVID), the average weight cut across UFC events in California was 10%. California started punishing fighters above 14.7% (source).

Here's the last event in Cali. So we DO know that the 4 BW's in that event gained 12%, 12%, 14% and 14%. All 4 of these fighters are well above average, and half of them are getting mighty close to "too high" (as per California rules).

So riddle me this; why might "weight bully" whiners bitch about some fighters, but not about Blackshear, Zalal, Cruz and Vera? Answer: because they are emotional bitches who don't rationally use available facts to come to reasonable conclusions.

jamaican genetics. low body fat. he can cut alot of water.

he used to not be so huge. he put on alot of size between the first and second Yan fight.

maybe the neck injury was holding him back? maybe another reason?

Hard to tell because of the hair/bald. But there doesn’t seem to be more than an inch difference between them there. And wiki says they’re both 5’7”. I don’t understand the reluctance of either the UFC, or the commissions to measure these fucking fighters. You only have to do it once, and their height would then be official.

It’s the shape Aljo showed up in for the rematch that was surprising for me. Looks like he’s chiseled out of granite in the pic in the OP. That’s pretty crazy.

Virtually every fighter cuts a LOT of weight.
Sterling could go to 145 and do very well.
Body Lock Champ Champ.
