I live in the greater toronto area and it's the worst I've ever seen in my lifetime. Too much construction on the roads at one time is causing major traffic congestion.

I give it around a 9-10.

Another GTA resident checking in. I avoid the 401 at all costs. In most cases the side streets are a better option, even for lengthy drives (or the 407, if you don't mind paying the toll).

Fortunately, I'm on the road at 5am & then heading home at 4:30 pm so I avoid most traffic. I also work locally so the highway isn't an issue.

Highway traffic = 9/10
Local traffic = 4/10 (7/10 during peak periods)

I live in Shanghai
the traffic can be nightmarish but it has gotten way better especially in the last few years
I pretty much live the scooter life to avoid traffic but it is worse in smaller cities with worse road structure.
for a city with 24 million people it could be way worse

What do you think of the Gardiner nowadays and just downtown Toronto? I think it's worst I've ever seen. I understand they have to fix these roads, but they are doing all in the same time. There is bound to be heavy traffic.

I couldn't imagine living around 24 million other people....

I feel you
I grew up in new Mexico and Colorado
so this is the opposite of that
you get used to it and there are perks bit when the system goes down though it can be terrible
I'm already around more people than I care to be haha. Just doing my time, making money, then will go back to gravel road country living lol.

Louisville area, some of the worst drivers in the world.
Only places I've driven that I hate more are Chicago and Miami
I lived in Louisville for years and traffic isn't that bad. I didn't have an issue with most drivers. I'm comparing that to where I live now which is the DC area. The traffic is awful here and the drivers are very aggressive.

I live in the countryside in England, in an average sized town with great beaches, also with the outskirts being predominantly fields/farms. It gets bad at rush hour and school runs, but for the most part it's not bad at all. I give it a 6 / 10. Summer months can be chaos though with hundreds of tourists flooding to our coastline/beaches.

It has gotten considerably worse since I moved here in 2016.

I live somewhat close to Nashville and don't go there much anymore because traffic is egregious.

Long Island with a territory for work that goes all 5 boroughs and into CT. Traffic is pretty bad. Timing is everything. Rush hours are really bad. Some roads are almost always bad (LIE, BQE, 95 in CT) but many are ok between 10am and 3pm. The burbs are fine.

Why do you think it's gotten better? I've heard news of slumping economy and western companies getting out of Shanghai.

I'm in the East end of the GTA (Whitby) so I don't typically travel the Gardiner. If I'm going downtown it's easier to hop on the train & avoid the congestion.

Fairly bad for the amount of actual people here, which isn't extremely large. The problem is the non-stop construction, and everyday lane closures that no one can keep track of. That is what causes it here. And at least a wreck or two on I75. The 40 mile section near my city gets at least two wrecks on it a day.

It's not awful in San Diego 6/10 but I'm comparing it to Chicago which id place at a solid 8 and LA which I'd place a 9.

I live in a tourist area in Florida. Traffic is seasonal. Traffic can be awful between Dec to April with all the pale white Canadians coming to vacation. Joking a bit with that, but we do see a great many Canadians here waving the maple leaf flag and having a good time during those months.
