How is it a sauna cuts weight? Is it just the removal of "water weight" through sweating? I have used sweat suits and trained but I've never used a sauna, how exactly does it work and to be more honest, how exactly is water weight shed? I've noticed the more water I drink the more I sweat...

any benefits to a sauna other then for weight cutting??

yeah you sweat out the dirt that accumulates in your skin. it's healthy to do it once in a while if you have access to one.

DATS TRUE. i did it a few times and my skin was lighter

i think the benefits are that you can just lie there, set a timer and take a nap. it's a pretty passive process versus running in a sweat suit, which burns a lot of energy.

Its amazing how little some folk know. I ve seen folk in my gym training in a sweat suit a week before a fight as if this is going to help them lose weight quicker! as soon as you have a drink of water you put the weight straight back on again.

Recently, the Howard Stern show was having a weight loss contest with some of it's staff. Well one of the staff members was being trained by the infamous Chuck Zito. Zito was a HUGE proponent of working out in the sweat suit. Not sure what his logic was, but maybe that's how they did it in the old days.

I don't have any facts to quote, but a sauna is also an extremely dry heat source (vs. a steam room for example) so I think it's ideal for cutting weight because it's hot enough to force perspiration and dry enough to begin th eprocess of absorbing that perspiration. Remember, you don't lose weight sweating until you remove the sweat.

so you can't cut weight in a steam room?

Is there any reason why "actual" sweating wouldn't work just as well?

i have no need to cut weight but i may hop in there just for this reason. the winter was harsh on my skin.

Don't consider saunas. Look at cutting early, eating properly and have good cardio.

I feel better after I go to a sauna on rest days (sundays), I dont use it to cut weight.. just to relax

I think one of the reasons is that sitting in a sauna requires no work (physically, mentally it can kill someone cutting weight) so someone that is already on a huge caloric deficit and is probably exhausted from training can just sit there

Here you go Sonny,
You might think I am nuts (or Fruity) but that is what the massage therapist at my girlfriends salon told her. So I just went online to a website and here is what it basically is good for.

Saunas cleanse and rejuvenate skin. A radiant and pink skin become a reality. Mental and physical relaxation is also a major benefit of sauna use. In addition, saunas relax sore muscles and help in relieving stress and tension. The sauna also improves one's immune system, metabolic rate and circulation. Arthritis patients can benefit temporarily by taking sauna baths.

During a sauna bath, natural chemicals (Norepinephrines and Beta Endorphins) are released to relieve pain. Saunas help in burning sizeable amounts of calories. Also, the combination of low humidity and high temperature helps in cleansing ones pores thoroughly by increasing perspiration.

Infrared saunas are helpful in treating diabetes, hypertension, metal implants, and varicose veins. The patients of bronchial asthma, bronchitis, cough, catarrh of upper respiratory channels, and joints problems benefit from steam saunas.

Saunas create a condition of fever, which activates all organs of the body. It is a cure for headaches and common cold. Saunas promote sweating. Sweating is as essential as breathing and eating. Sweating cleanses, removes body waste and regulates body temperature. Sweating is very limited or non-existent in many as they live a sedentary life.

In summary, saunas have numerous health benefits. However, there are health risks of using saunas for some individuals so caution must be exercised.

so basically if you have a weigh in, in 3 weeks there is no point to using a suana... only until maybe the day before your weigh in right? i think i'll just go back to hard work.
