Horror News & Discussion Redux

haven't seen FG yet but have it copied

I think it was just a slow film. Too many action sequences to want to be an art film. Great movie though
Yeah dope movie. I had some pet peeves with it, but overall very much worth a watch

You weren't a fan of The Final Girls?

I think thats one of the most overlooked horror comedies of the last few years. LOVE that film. I know its kind of divisive, mainly cause of the emotional parts though. But they worked for me.

Tbh there were parts that were pretty cool about the whole way it played out. Imo the concept worked better than the execution of it. Your right though it does deserve some love, although it's more a parody or spoof of horror than an actual horror movie

The Blair Witch (2016)

Wow, alot of found footage/horror movies have come out since TBWP in 1999.

And it really shows watching this sequel; this has just as much in common with REC, VHS, Grave Encounters etc as it does with TBWP, and so the familiarity of the new horror tropes it displays really takes away any true fear, that the original had. Showing as much of 'The Witch' as this did really takes out the edge the original had.

Otherwise:

Alot of jump scares/cheap shots; felt like I as watching REC at times.

Barrett and Winguard for me forgot what made the first so good. The Blair Witch Project is actually a psychological horror; not saying it had no supernatural, but the scares were all psychological. This sequel was all loud noises and glimpses of stuff that takes the mystery out of what was so great about the original.

The horror should exist in the mind; here, it mimics so many found footage etc horrors that came out after the first Blair Witch.

Though I do commend them for expanding on the mythology, and they did need to do original things.

Just it did not have anywhere near the same effect as the first; of course, it couldn't possibly. But, for me, this was NOT truly TBW. Though I see it was produced by original directors Sanchez and Myrick.

After all is said and done, it's one of those films that does not need a sequel, and one cannot possibly live up to the original, and only serves to strip away it's effect. It shouldn't have been made, but I'm glad I watched it for the nostalgia.

3 Wicker dolls out of 5

Just watched the new Rob Zombie film, 31. Basically a Running Man remake. Pretty disappointed. Thought Lords of Salem, as divisive as it was, was an artistic improvement for Zombie and made me excited where he was headed. This is worth a watch I guess, but man is it generic.

31 does have one thing going for it at least: it has a better Joker in it than Suicide Squad did.

ah ok...thought it was a netflix original for some raisin

You're referring to my post?

Why no Like then? : ( ; )

I always give my reviews a little twist relevant to the film; for example when I reviewed Blue is the warmest colour, I gave it 4 clits out of 5; on account of all the clitoris on display in this French lesbian love story. Glad you like.

Oh it's not that I didn't like it, it's that I liked it so much that it made me laugh lol.

Nice heads up on the lesbian story hmm gonna have to google that o:

Also I watched Triangle after seeing it mentioned here. At first I thought you guys were referring to that TV movie, tho couldn't see you guys really being such fans of that to suggest it lol, so googled and anyways . . .

Had me really tense at the beginning, and then after that settled down it was just a fun little ride tbh. I liked it ^.^

I had never heard of this movie, so I watched it on a whim last night. Rob Zombie is a one trick pony. That being said, I really did enjoy the Doom-Head character. Everything else......eh.

As others have said, it was Zombie-by-numbers. Old-school American rock soundtrack? Check. Scrawny, malnourished looking hick villains? Check. Gore? Check. It was fairly generic I thought. The clowns didn't do much for me, I kinda liked the first one (won't give away details) but the 'duo' were there and gone too quickly, the second 'duo' were not good characters at all. Doomhead was pretty sketchy but nothing memorable for me.

Mexican midget TRT Hitler was definitely the best part of the film

Just watched The Blair Witch. Dis-appoint-ed. I was really hoping it would be a build up of terror and not a bunch of shaky jump scares. Apparently the cameras were better over a decade ago.
