Horror News & Discussion Redux

It's just you're opinion and mine but you're off on "The Guest" . That shit's already made midnight movie status in my area. The local art house movie added it last summer. That's pretty much record time in my book. That might be one of the better indie movies I've seen in a minute. Well paced, decently acted, with sharp dialogue. Not sure if it's really horror though. Almost an action/ suspense movie

that is a great movie and Maika Monroe is a babe...oh and good music too

It Follows is bizarre and even has plot holes, but god damn, it was done just right. The worst part is that its bizarre, BUT thats where the horror is centered. We dont know what the fuck it is or why it does what it does. Thats scary not understanding it.

The best recent horror movie I have seen. I would not say that it has plot holes but the monster is a different type of monster

This is what it was really about
basically the movie is a metaphor for how once we have sex we are no longer kids. And trying not to get "killed" by you see them still trying to be children after having sex---that is why they run to the playground or the beach or the cabin or the pool---all the places they remember having the most fun as a kid.
All the ITs in some way related to them becoming adults
--the guy who is too tall represents how you outgrow your parent's house and have to move out at some point. The guy who really almost got her at the end looked like her dad. The old man on top of the roof (her grandpa) was the highest and most scary in a way---that we will all grow to be very old. Or the beaten woman all bruised up is saying we could grow up to be abused by our mate.

Its an interesting theory. Who came up with it?

Personally, id rather not have an explanation. when i was a child, Poltergeist was the one that got me. When i grew up and understood why she was sucked in, it was no longer scary.

I was absolutely fine with not seeing the witch in Blair Witch, not knowing why the girl was tormented in Paranormal Activity, why Michael Myers was "pure evil," and not knowing what It Follows monster was.

Ever see I Saw the Devil? The villain hes chasing and tormenting basically tells him that no matter what he does to him, it wont change him. He is incapable of any kindness and therefore, the epitome of darkness. I love that concept.

might have been a commentary on the dvd by some guy (not a director)
funny thing is i just went through a couple yt videos about it follows and no one was close to this

i get not wanting a back story or mythology as that to some degree screws it up, but again this is a totally different kind of monster

never saw that devil movie.

Its just about the best revenge movie Ive seen.

You got a hero, set out to find the monster that destroyed his life, and boy does he find him. Again and again. Constantly beating the shit out of him, becoming a monster himself. Very demented, but wonderfully shot. Korean and the star is the guy who played the lead in Old Boy and the villain in Lucy. 10/10

I saw the devil was outstanding. violent, suspenseful and thoughtful (does a man need to become a monster to fight a monster?). Very enjoyable movie.

Spring was also very good. Started off a bit slow but paid off nicely at the end. Horror-romance is not a combination I've seen done well very often but this one pulled it off.

I have a few new movies track down now, like The Guest :)

Does anyone collect funko pops? I have a leatherface, freddy, regan and rubberman and ash. I wanna get more tho. I just picked up this funko vinyl. American Psycho is one of my favorite movies but not really horror sorry. But also posting these prints from a local dude I met recently in town Ken Salinas. Really nice guy.

lol, I am like "that is not good looking enough to be bateman"

The guy who makes those is great tho. They all look like Simpsons-ish. I think his name is Kibooki or kibookied on IG. I wish more of his stuff was for sale

This month's Fright-Rags Midnight Madness 24hr timed release will be on Friday the 13th and is a sweet mash up of Friday the 13th part VI Jason Lives in the style of the iconic Evil Dead poster.

Can anyone recommend any other films similar to I saw the Devil? I hadn't seen the movie until recently and it was pretty intense.

I don't collect them but I do have the Leatherface one and a Jason. Oh and also a BB-8.

Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance, my dude.

You beat me to SFMV. I'd recommend the entire Vengeance trilogy
- Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
- Old Boy
- Lady Vengeance

Thirst, also from Chan-Wook Park, is also pretty effective.

Although not horror, the Man From Nowhere is a great Korean action movie if you want to see someone just fuck people up.

Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately I have seen those films except for Man From Nowhere. I remember being a teen watching Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance. That baseball bat scene.

I'm interested in the Puppet Master reboot. The series is pretty ass, objectively, but it's a guilty pleasure from my childhood. The core puppets were always cool, imo.

I always liked the third one. The costumes, music and sets in that film were amazing, considering the budget.

2-4 are probably my favorites. 2 is more of the same but a bit more refined. 3 is easily Charles Band's magnum opus in the series. 4 was just dumb fun.
