Ok so i really feel like a good horror hasn't come out in, i dunno, 10 years.

What is like a good consensus best horror of the last 10 years?

There have been a lot of great horrors just in the past couple.

Starry Eyes, It Follows, The Invitation, Babadook, We Are Still Here, Late Phases, House Of The Devil, The Loved Ones. I personally love the VHS franchise as well

Those are off the top of my head, and all recent. You just gotta avoid the mainstream shit, browse the internet and you'll find a lot of gems

EDIT this is a horror comedy, but The Final Girls was EASILY one of my favorite movies last year.

I don't know about consensus but Kill List is one of the few horrors from the last decade that I revisit often.

Kill List (2011)

The one strike against this movie is that it is English and even if you are English you will still need subtitles. I think I've seen this 5 times at this point and will continue to revisit it. I love all the actor's in this film. I'm not really one to crush on actresses but MyAnna Buring (Shel) captivates me in this. Neil Maskell (Jay) and Michael Smiley (Gal) come off as real down on their luck, identifiable douches that just happen to be hitmen. It's a pretty artsy, atmospheric film that has an ending that you will either love or hate. It's kind of slow but has moments of brutal violence.




I fucking love this movie.

I liked all the films you recommended except Starry Eyes. I didn't think it was bad but it just didn't do it for me for whatever reason.

I'm gonna check out The Invitation soon.

There have been a lot of good horrors recently but Kill List is one of the select few that I bothered buying and revisit regularly.

I thought Lovely Molly was good and it was probably the last film I saw that kind of creeped me out but it wasn't well received critically.

Hated Babadook, House of the Devil was okay. I liked the first VHS but the 2nd was crap.

I'll have to check out the others.

Man, I LOVED Starry Eyes. The lead actress had a lot to do with it though, I think. She did a great job and GOD was she gorgeous. Awesome that you've seen all the others I mentioned though.

The more I let The Invitation sit with me, the more I realize how fucking amazing it was. Hope everyone who visits this thread gives it a shot.

Only seen Kill List once, but I need to revisit it soon myself. It really was an amazing film, I was very impressed, especially since the UK doesn't seem to produce many worth while horrors.

I'm a horror junkie and Lovely Molly is the rare film I haven't seen. Gonna download it and watch it sometime in the coming days.

Babadook definitely seems to be a love it or hate it film with those who view it. The metaphorical elements really intrigued me, and I thought it was a great directorial debut. Look forward to further work from the film maker.

Have you seen the 3rd VHS? Critics panned it, but I loved it. To me, it was probably the most "fun" of the franchise. The 2nd is my least favorite, but still a good time. If you like anthology horror, i'd highly recommend ABCs of Death 2. The first was meh, but the second is fantastic.

I loveeee a good slow burn horror, so House of The Devil is a big personal favorite. Did not like Ti West's recent work, The Sacrament, but that could be worth a watch as well since many people seem to enjoy it. Sitting at a 6.1 on IMDB which is pretty damn good for a horror film.

The Loved Ones, Eden Lake, Pandorum, The Purge films, The Cabin in The Woods, The Horde, Wrymwood, The Revenant, V/H/S #1, The Crazies, Attack the Block . These are not groundbreaking but good horror films I can think of right now made in the last 10 years.

Jacob's Ladder is easily top 5 horror movies for me personally, and part of me can get behind this, but part of me can't.

Its definitely dated in a lot of aspects that modern day tech can improve on. The first that comes to mind is the house party, and those dummy's they use as demons.

I guess the part of me that can't get behind this is the part that knows 95% of horror remakes are shit.

Great list Attack The Block is more comedy, but that film is so awesome.

I think we're in the same boat.

I'm more stoked for the potential of what it can be. From here until the release date I can change my mind based on director, producer, etc. Most horror remakes suck because they're cheaply made, quickly produced cookie cutter garbage with zero effort into making anything good. Jacob's Ladder isn't a typical teen slasher remake, though. I think it will attract a talented director.
 
Anyone here watching Salem?

Both seasons are on Netflix streaming.

i just finished season 2. It's got everything you could want from a show about the witchcraft era of Salem. It's not a realistic take on the events but instead is a fun show that uses the lore from the era in an over the top way that is entertaining but without being tongue in cheek cheesy.

I loved Pandorum. I've been hoping it would pop up on demand so i can watch it again.

Best? I dunno.

I keep recommending a little seen and little talked about movie called Hidden that's a couple years old. I've mentioned it in the horror threads but I don't know if anyone has actually watched it.
