Horror News & Discussion Redux

No reviews for The Witch in here? I've only heard that it's almost a big budget art film, with no modern jump scares. That sounds like my kind of film for my wife to fall asleep to.

Fright Rags is doing a Midnight Madness tee this Saturday the 20th.

I know there are fans of Jason Edmiston here and as a Cronenberg and The Fly fan I'm pumped for this one.

Didn't get this one but I did get one of their "mystery tees." Should be getting it today. Hope it's something good.

The Witch was great. If slow burn/atmospheric horror is not your style and you are looking for gore, jump scares and one liners this is not a movie for you.

The film is beautifully directed, acted and scored. The attention to detail in the dress, dialect and setting of the film is superb and the fact that it uses details from actual records of witchcraft from that era makes The Witch an immersive experience in horror.

If you are a fan of smart horror with social commentary I think this is a film you should check out.

8/10

This is a brief review I left in The Witch thread. If anyone has any questions or wants some spoilerage let me know.

The Pumpkin head tees from frightrags are pretty sweet

Ended up with this one from The Twilight Zone, not too bad haha.

Just saw Another (2014), also known as The Mark of the Witch. Has anyone else seen it?

Movie is weird as hell, and honestly not very good. Movie is incoherent as hell, and tries very hard to be "artsy" I think. There's so much slow motion in there as well. Plot is fuzzy as hell, and the characters aren't interesting at all. Trippy shit really.

Meet the New Pinhead Actor in HELLRAISER: JUDGMENT and Other Major Details

Gary Tunnicliffe is deep into production on Hellraiser: Judgment, a unique new vision for the Hellraiser franchise that will feature A Nightmare On Elm Street‘s Heather Langenkamp in a role.

Hellraiser: Judgment is loosely based on Tunnicliffe’s passion project, Judgment, and will feature a bunch of crazy new Cenobites, including a fresh face to take on the role of Pinhead.

Bloody Disgusting can exclusively reveal that Paul T. Taylor is your new Pinhead. Tunnicliffe previously teased the casting of “a classically trained stage and film actor who brings a great physical presence and more than a hint of Peter Cushing and Ralph Fiennes.” Taylor can also be seen in films such as Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City and James Gunn’s Super.

Damon Carney (The Veil, The Hitcher) plays Detective Sean Carter, Randy Wayne (To Save a Life) is Detective David Carter and Alexandra Harris (In the Shadows, The Veil) will portray Detective Christine Egerton.

In Hellraiser: Judgment, “Detectives Sean and David Carter are on the case to find a gruesome serial killer terrorizing the city. Joining forces with Detective Christine Egerton, they dig deeper into a spiraling maze of horror that may not be of this world. Could the Judgment awaiting the killer’s victims also be waiting for Sean?“

As for the new Cenobites, get ready for this awesome bombshell: John Gulagher – director of Feast and Piranha 3DD – will star as The Assessor! This role is tied to The Auditor, a character that learns of your sins, your transgressions, your evils, and takes careful note of them before passing them on to the Assessor for judgment.

Diane Goldner (Halloween 2, Feast 2, The Collector) nabbed the wicked role of The Cleaner, a terrifying, aging, naked women clean bodies for punishment by licking them head to toe. Special effects specialist Mike Jay Regan will once again portray Chatterer.

Andi Powers is going to play one of the three Jury, who were described as naked, perfectly beautiful girls with have faces that have been shredded away; blood, bone, muscle, sinew and teeth exposed. They pass the horrific verdicts onto all offending mortals.

Jeff Fenter (The Box, Zero Charisma) is Karl Watkins with Helena Grace Donald (Portrait of An Art Thief) as Jophiel, and Grace Montie (Southern Tale) taking on the role of Crystal Lanning, a beautiful socialite who is never far from her beloved little dog, “Baby.”

As for Heather Langenkamp, she is the chain-smoking Landlady who snorts obscenities to the police.

Can't say I like the sound of that. I'd rather see Scott Bakula go up against Doug Bradley in The Scarlet Gospels.

There are just some Horror Icons you can't replace someone playing.

Doug as Pinhead is one of them.

I'll watch the new Hellraiser with hopes of it not being anywhere close to as terrible as the last six. I really hope to see The Witch week. Pretty sad when a grown man can't afford a movie.

I've actually never watched the Grudge but Ring vs. Grudge sounds interesting. I've tried to watch The Grudge but the torrents for it suck.

Horror Anthology HOLIDAYS Gets a First Trailer and Release Date

Holidays-031416-Dragonlord.jpg

If middling ensemble rom-coms are your preferred method of celebrating the holidays, Garry Marshall’s recent output should have you covered. But if you’d prefer to be scared senseless on all the special days of the year? Well then, the new horror anthology Holidays might be more in your wheelhouse.

Directors Kevin Smith, Gary Shore (Dracula Untold), Scott Stewart (Dark Skies), Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes), Sarah Adina Smith (The Midnight Swim), Nicholas McCarthy (The Pact), Adam Egypt Mortimer (Some Kind of Hate), and Anthony Scott Burns (Darknet) all contributed to the film, which consists of different segments corresponding to different holidays.

Holidays will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 14, followed by a global day-and-date release starting April 15 and then a U.S. theatrical release on April 22.

First Trailer for Horror Anthology 'Holidays'; Opens April 22, 2016

Finally dropped my Evil Dead 2 poster off for framing. I'll take a post a pic when it's all done.

Really excited with the setup I chose.

Can someone tell me something good to watch?

I'm new here.

Thanks.

Hey, couldn't find a new thread so I went ahead and started one.

One piece of news, small on the larger scale, but huge to me - I'm currently scoring a short film that features Tony Todd. It's like a lifelong dream to score films, particularly horror, so I'm on cloud 9 right now.

I'm not sure what else I can reveal att. I can say I'm doing the job I guess. I'm definitely not allowed to show any of the film, probably better I keep the music to myself for now too, but I will post some stuff the minute I'm allowed to.

Edit: thanks for putting it in here, wasn't coming up in my search for some reason
