Horror News & Discussion Redux

Hellraiser II is one of those sequels I like more than the original. Doesn't happen a lot in any genre, especially horror when the originals usually end on a perfectly creepy note and sequels give you too much info; Halloween, TCSM, ANOES (the ending wasn't the best, I came up with a better compromise ending in my head, but the overall tone of it worked), The Exorcist, and Phantasm, are all prime examples, even though I enjoy many of the sequels. I think much of II's success has to do with the rather confined setting/feeling of the original despite the mythology being grander in scope. Hellraiser II does take some of the oomph out of the original Cenobites in favor of the Dr. Channard Leviathan avatar, but I feel the story is better.

I cosign this. was more wicked to me with a better story

cool horror movies I recently watched

jane does autopsy- very solid film
anti birth- comedy trippy horror. The end was like wtf...the whole movie was like that

Ok i cant put pics via phone to save my fucking life...

LATE PHASES (revisited) 8/10

I saw this 2 years ago on the "horror gems you didnt see in 2014," and i remembered thinking it was...ok.

Its October again and i did like the setup, so i had to watch it once moee. Glad I did.

A blind army vet is put into a retirement with his seeing eye dog. He quickly comes up with the idea that this community has a werewolf. He then quickly learns his new environment, trains, and acquires silver bullets. Him being blind means his other senses are heightened, but he does a clever trick at the end witg his hearing to gain an edge. Not sure if it would work, but it should.

The actor is phenomenal. I looked him up to see if he really is blind, thats how well he does. Hes got a new England, grumpy attitude, but he never comes out with anyone saying he believes a werewolf is present. He keeps it all within and it makes the neighbors uneasy.

Some of the other characters are fucking stupid...as in not intelligent. The cops think these attacks are caused by animals from the woods, despite fucking walls and doors being torn down. Whatever, thats not the worst part.

The worst part, and its going to be confusing because of my score, but..its the werewolf. Who the fuck thought this god damn thing looked good? Its awful. Now, its practical effects, but god damn, play some camera tricks to hide some of its awfulness. Its a guy in a suit. And it looks like a suit. Its dreadful.

We see a transformation and I spotted limited cgi, but its dominantly all practical. Its actually a bit different than what were used to, making it refreshing, its a pity they turn into such a shit looking monster.

Despite the comical wolf, the movie plays seriously, has a good score, and the kills/gore is great. I am not sure why i didnt praise it so much before, perhaps cuz its not scary, but its highly entertaining.

I went ahead and...tried to watch Hellraiser 2 last night. Uhhhh, yeah. This was a mess. Its also the movie that I remembered the cenobites getting their asses kicked.

Theres too many unnecessary things in this one. A mattress bringing the ugly bitch back, Frank, the little girl who loves puzzles, the woman wanting the dr to become a cenobite, etc. And its got this Sy-Fy quality look to it.

I disagree, sir, like a motherfucker.

4.5/10

The Void was fantfuckingtastic.

I know many would disagree, because there are no real answers to be found, but if you like old cthulu-esque cosmic horror, it's a damn fine experience.

I havent seen anyone talk about it but James Rolfe over at Cinemassacre.com, ehom does the Monster Madness, is certainly half assing it this year and phoning the shit in. He said last year, it would be his last, and its why this year sucks, but god damn, he should let mike do it.

Or..

Why not revisit movies hes reviewed and talk about some of the stories that came about them, folklore, or supposed curses? Poltergeist and its main cast almost all died. Or open a discussion, The Thing, who had the keys to the blood? Was Macready one of them? He can talk about the culture around these movies, like The Exorcist selling out like a motherfucker.

The movies hes reviewing this year are scarce, but worse, theyre SHIT. Like his game reviews, i want to empathize with similar feelings i had watching these movies. I dont have much to go on if hea reviewing a horror i dont know AND saying it sucks.

dude watch anti birth. Its more of a comedy but its awesome. Gore, humor

Its a play on rosemarys baby but more twisted and less god

The black coats daughter was pretty wicked but be warned that it is a very slow burn. Ending was very original. The ending really made the movie for me, without it I wouldn't even recommend it. Its not epic by any means but the originality I was thankful for

almost watched it until i picked up on the comedy vibe in the trailer.

no thanks.
Nothing wrong with horror comedy, especially when they’ve been consistently awesome for past decade (Deathgasm, John Dies At The End, Detention, Final Girls. Just off top of my head)

ive not seen any of those and wont plan to. The moment ya laugh in a horror, it ceases to be or tries to be scary, eliminating it from any sort of horror run, roughly speaking. Theyre still labeled as horror, sure, simply because you cant put them anywhere else.

Id be more forgiving of a horror movie done badly than one that is intentionally funny. OR! A good horror that accidentally has lol moments, e.g. the headless woman in Deadly Friend.

Idk man you’re kind of being close minded. It’s one thing if its just not your taste, but to not even give them a try is doing yourself a disservice. No reason to put horror in a box, it’s the deepest genre and capable of entertaining in different ways.

I hold horror to a high standard, its true. Its the hardest genre to get right.

IT has comedy in it, but it works for me because that movie also captures the magic of childhood. Plus, Pennywise is a god damn clown. A clown!

Has anyone watched The Transfiguration?

Its a little indie horror/drama about a teen in the hood who thinks he's a vampire. I caught it on Netflix. I really like it.

I thought IT was pretty dam awesome.

Did anyone hear about the new X-Men that's going to be a horror movie? It actually looks pretty crazy.
